hello from new jersey

hi from nj. just picked up a 98 civic dx for my 75 mile 5 day a week commute. car is stock besides an eBay header and high flow cat. timing belt, water pump and clutch were just done. 176k on the odometer.

this week will be my baseline tank. 65 mph speed limit on 35 psi.

Ultra Gauge on order. I made a full grill block which will be going on after the baseline tank along with 50 psi in the tires. picking up a set of vx rims this weekend.

interested on how this all works out.

Welcome, Fellow Jersian!

New Jersey drivers tend to be impatient. I've noticed a lot of people flashing, beeping and speeding past me (in spite of me being rightfully in the right lane) because even though I end up catching them at the next light, they're not keen on waiting a good 45 seconds to get to cruising speed. Oh well. Good luck with your endeavors here in the Garden State! :)

Welcome.

What were you driving before the Civic?

Toyota Tacoma 4x4, 23mpg doing speed limit or +5 at most.

Last year I toyed with a geo prizm with the Toyota engine but the 3 spd automatic just wasn't practical.

I believe the DX will meet my expectations.

I do 65 mph in the right lane on the GSP and I get people coming up to my bumper then flip me off as the fly by. I just smile and wave. Doing the speed limit in the right lane keeps me moving consistently and I barely have to pass anyone.

Yeah, those old 3 speed automatics were crap, MPG-wise. Can't beat a manual.

What kind of Tacoma?

I got almost 30 MPG for my last year with my '00 2WD 2.4L 5 speed. You had the 4X4 to contend with, but...

2.7 5 speed.. 30 mpg in a 2wd is definitely doable I know a few guys getting over 30.

attempt at a warm air intake using the stock intake setup; raised intake temp from 64 to 75 degrees at 65 mph cruising speed. I am going to make a sheet metal box to enclose the header and intake tube, hopefully raising the intake temp another 20 degrees.
