Hello from Sweden

Hi there!
A short presentation. Been a silent member since 2010.
Have a genuine interest for slightly older cars. New cars especially electric have no soul i think.

I have a Audi A2 1.2TDI which is a lovely mini MPV. Currently getting som much needed work.
Thinking of buying a Suzuki Grand Vitara XL7 gen1.
Also have:
Toyota Supra Turbo ’88 with 1JZ-GTE engine.
Toyota Celica GT-four ’89

The first 2 is my dailys
The toyotas are my go fast cars :)

Best regards
Andreas

Welcome. Is the A2 getting maintenance or improvements?

Maintenance or more kind of a resurection. It my old DD since almost 8years. But its been sittning for about 4 years. I suspected the 3# shiftfork i transmission had gone bad but turned out to be just the robotic shift linkage. Have changed all 4 brakes and now changing e-brake cables which have seized also. Half the interior had to come out to change the most forward part connected to the lever inside.
Next i’m going to do the timing belt. Also A/C stoppad to work when sittning, going to be looking in to that also.
Its done about 33000km, about 10000km in my possession. so i hope its going to so at least 20000 more with som work. The alu body is not going to rust. Best Consulting i’ve managed is 2,6l/100km in one trip but usual avarage according to trip computer is between 2,8-3,0liter/100km in summer time. With the webasto in winter time its an awsome little car.

BUT in the meanwhile I am looking at a Suzuki GV XL7 which i also like and Will likely buy. What can be Done with its rather high consumtion of nearley 11liters/100km of the 2,7liter V6 with auto?
Some aerowork, Warm air intake, skinnier tires? Will this accountedge for som gains? :)
Tried to post a thread in ”Ecomodder central” but does not seem to work.

Awaiting moderator to approve or something like it.

Tried posting a simular thread a couple of years. Was the same thing back then and nothing got posted. Gave up eventually.
I would very much like to discuss some my cars and possible improvements. I have read most guides on the site and many cool projects. :)
I would much rather spend my money improving FE than spending it on fuel. Even if its mor cost than gain is worth.

Oh i forgot, i actually tried a lower grill block on the A2 and cardboard on radiator in the winter time to keep som heat i. The car. Did not notis an actuall FE improvement. But i got faster warm up times with the little ”oilburner”

Before or after the post in Introductions? Try again and get the exact wording. There is a minimum number of posts to be able to post pix, but IDK why the post itself would be declined.

Is this an A2?

Note that the box add-on extends up the roof to the C-pillar.

Before introduction post. I’ll try again later. About to go to sleep here

Yes that is an A2. Mine is stock. I can post som pictures later. I’m thinking of fabricating rear wheel covers and a flat underbody. Has to get it on the road again first.
I’ve read about that one in the picture. Managed to get Cd as low as 0.206 fully modified i think. Very low FC.
It is almost more fun to do ECOmodding than go fast bits. :)

Why not both?

In my experience, the rubber bits age faster than anything else. How are the window seals doing?

Now the other Grand vitrara post worked.
Probably had to do the introduction first or something.

Both? How do you mean?
Go fast and ecomodding?

Yes, rubber age. In the A2 I think they are fine ( good enough ).
Noticed wind noise from driverside A-pillar once during one trip in the winter time. But thats probably due to the cold. Below -18C and colder many things do not work perfectly but suprisingly good in the A2. It has been a champ. The worst problem has been when the Webasto heater stoped working. I had ice on both the outside and inside of the windscreen which did not defrost then. I got the whole webasto unit renovated though.

Thats the thing with the A2 1.2tdi. Its worth every replacementpart because of the low consumtion and Aluminum body which never will rust. Its a forever car if one takes care of it.
About 10 years ago i calculated the cost of the A2 to about halv or better compared with every other car i've owned. Including a 1999 corolla with almost nonexistant replacement parts.
Perhaps a modern electric car can do better but i doubt it.

Some things like drivetrain and hypermiling may not apply, but aerodynamics surely does. The Square-cube law starts at 25 mph (40.2336 km/h).
