Help my uncle is being arrogant!

I need a chart of non L/B vs L/B in the Honda insight at 55mph. He absolutely REFUSES to believe that it's a 25mpg boost. After 15 minutes of arguing I simply gave up. Pls help his arrogance is overwhelming.

Is your thermostat issue resolved? Once you get that straight just show him and let him buy you some gas.

I'm still in long Beach (my insight is at home 100mi away). We were having the debate at lunch and my cousin (his son) was trying to get him to understand but he is so frustratingly stubborn. I love proving him wrong because of the look on his face haha.

I go home at midnight tonight and I'm gonna hollow out my thermostat and swap it then. Should have results before 6am (I'm nocturnal).

I actually needed to make that, I could not find a good one.

25 mpg = 9.41 l/100km
50 mpg = 4.70 l/100km
75 mpg = 3.14 l/100km
100mpg = 2.35 l/100km

I wouldn't expect him to embrace the l/100km measurement, but it might help see how a 25mpg improvement isn't as mind blowingly difficult to attain at the level of your insight vs a full size truck

Just show him this link: EcoModder Fleet list - EcoModder.com with its 10 insights in the range of 60 - 100 MPG.

Nono, he isn't denying the insight isn't capable of 90-100mpg, he is denying the fact that the CVT gets 25mpg less than the manual due to no lean burn.

RedDevil 09-18-2014 06:02 AM

Best CVT in that list gets 70 MPG. The top runners are all MT.

I think the word you're looking for is 'obstinate' not 'arrogant'... ;)

The 5MT also has a much taller top gear, and less energy is lost in the transmission. Lean burn at a given throttle opening uses something like 2/3 the fuel, so you'll see the display jump from 50 to 75MPG, but the engine output isn't the same. Lean burn, as I understand it, allows for very small power outputs while still remaining relatively efficient.
