help removing part of a roof rack
i'd love to remove part of the roof rack on my frontier, but i don't have the right tool to do it. all of the nuts are a type i've never seen before, and i was wondering if anyone could help me out. i think i need a torque wrench to get them off, thats all i know..
http://i477.photobucket.com/albums/r...c/IMG_1893.jpg edit/add: i'm looking to build a tonneau cover (among other things).. is it better to build a full one or partial? and if partial which end to start at (cab or tailgate)? and materials/methods for the cover itself would be much appreciated i know that this topic has been discussed over and over, and i apologize |
Those are called torx (I think, right?). You can pick up the sockets for them pretty much anywhere and take them off like normal. Good luck!

yes! torx wrenches. thanks. i'll have to run over to a hardware store and pick some up.
also, in regards to the tonneau cover, the truck has TracRac tracks mounted on top of the sides of the bed, and i was trying to think of a way to incorporate them into the design of the tonneau cover. any advice from anyone whos tried something like this before would be great. |
^ If you own a Jeep, everything is Torx, barely any phillips. A Jeeper always has a torx set handy.
Seems like your frontier has these too. I personally like them better cause each one needs a specific size, otherwise it won't work, and they're virtually impossible to strip (unless you angle one of the smaller ones right and/or don't use a torx driver. I had to take off my rack with torx. Ask for a set for Xmas (if its not already too late! :D) |
good to know
i looked around the house and lo and behold there is!!!:) a set of torx wrenches. jumping with joy i run out to the truck to find that..........they're all too small:rolleyes: oh well. |
