Hey everyone!

New here!
Hope everyone is doing okay!
I'm converting my VW Passat B4 to electric power. Hope to find some advice here and share my progress. Besides that, I love to make creative and useful household things from various parts available at hand.

My current battery pack design lets me get 240 km on a single charge from this beauty, but my goal is 300, so there's a lot of efficiency optimization work ahead.

What do you use for a drivetrain?

I've got a B2 and this setting on a bench but I haven't though about putting them together, seriously anyway.

It's single-speed, 98lb, 68hp. It would replace the engine and transmission, but it wants Toyota CV joints.

Wasn't the B2 named Quantum in the American market? AFAIK the Dasher is still a B1.

Let's not argue in front of the new folk. Typ 32, the one styled by Giorgetto Giugiaro,

I'm using a proprietary manual gearbox and a motor with a copper rotor in my build. I have a video where I show how everything looks under the hood, but can't share it because of the low post count:)

Nothing stops you from posting three time in a row. What 'proprietary manual' gearbox?

YLogvin 05-31-2021 03:51 PM

Maybe I didn't translate that well, but I'm using a gearbox that was originally installed in the car.

Copper rotor suggests a brushed DC motor. Permanent magnet or series-wound?

YLogvin 06-01-2021 07:50 AM

As far as I know, most AC motors have aluminum rotors. But there are also ones with the copper rotor. They're quite rare, but nevertheless, they exist. I'm using one of those induction motors with the copper rotor.
