Hit another deer
 

Another deer ran in front of my car at 45mph at 4 in the morning. It impacted on the center/left on my car's nose, which flipped and rolled it as its enertia carried it off the left shoulder of my car, then it ran off into the woods. The only damage to my car was a few new dents on the hood (although I'm sure the deer got a few bruises and scrapes in the process). A low rounded nose and and sloped front end is a vast improvement over the standard flat front bumper at greatly reducing damage to the car and injury to the deer. It redirects the collision energies upwards rather than absorbing them into the frame of the car as with conventionally shaped front ends. This is the 6th deer that has impacted my car in the 537,000 miles that I have driven it.

basjoos I rememger the video of a race car hitting a deer with no sign of damage to the car eventhough the deer went high into the air. I suspect that the low round front end actualy trips the animal then the gentle slope of the top and side of the front end "gently" moves the animal away. I have plans for modding the front end of a Aerostar van that hit a deer at about 40mph and damaged the front end. I plan to make it a semicyrcle in the horazontal plane with a sloped top end to protect the radiator and the next deer. I will keep your design in mind. Do you get a saving wild life award?

I hit a focus @ about 10-15mph, only improved the FE, even though I don't have a cool front like yours!

...hm-m-m, MPG is lowered, but the VENISON in the freezer is increased.

How well would that work on a Moose?

Probably about as well as it would work on an elk, horse, cow, or hog. The shape on the front of my car works fine for animals about the size and weight of a deer or large dog, but anything much heavier (over 400 lbs.) would crush the nose back to the stock bumper. But a larger, more heavily built version mounted on the front of a truck would probably work with those larger animals.

I saw that video of the "deer" hitting race car. That was a very small deer perhaps a fawn, maybe 50 pounds. It is common to see deer in the midwest that field dress at 180. Live weight can be 220-250 and you would do no more than knock the feet out from under them sending their weight through the windshield.

There is now talk of reintroducing elk into Missouri. I cringe at the thought of a moose.

I do like your car. The front end is shaped like the Fiero GT.
