A New First

I filled the tank back up in the Versa Wednesday and even though I've broke 50 MPG a few times in other cars this is the first time I've ever got 50+ MPG on back to back tanks in any car I've owned. The last few weeks have been cool enough that I didn't need to use the A/C and I'm sure that contributed to the good MPG. The past 2 tanks were also the first time I'd ran Marathon gas in this car and both tanks came in at over 50MPG. Other brands had been coming in at anywhere from 42.35-47.97MPG. It's getting hot enough now that I'm going to soon have to start using the A/C at least part time so I'm expecting my numbers to start dropping too. Even though I don't expect to get that mileage when I use the A/C it's nice to know I've got a car capable of 50MPG if driven right. I'm going to try Marathon a few tanks with A/C usage then try another brand with A/C usage and see how they compare but right now it seems there's something about Marathon gas that the Versa likes.

Congratulations! That 50+ mpg is quite an achievement for back-to-back tanks.

Let us know how much the air conditioner affects your mileage.

I live a few miles closer to the equator, in Louisiana, and the air conditioner usage is just about a "given" when quoting mileage down here. I'm under the impression the AC doesn't have much of an effect on my mileage.

Once summer really sets in I'll probably be using the a/c most if not all the time. This spring has been pleasant with low humidity here in KY so far so I haven't needed the a/c much at all. I've noticed on my '97 Escort wagon that a/c lowers mileage by somewhere around 10%. I used the a/c Saturday afternoon on a trip that was approximately 65-70 miles. I'm at nearly 300 miles on this tank and according to the gas gauge and the Ultra Gauge I'm in line for another 50+ MPG tank. Once I start using the a/c all the time or nearly all the time I'll update the information in this thread.
