Hot Air Intakes..
 

If you have a scangauge and a hot air intake, what is your outside tempuature as well as your incomming air temps? (read from MAP sensor)

I'm building a hot air intake and would love to see some pictures of everyones setups..

I'd attach my pics for archiving purposes but the
file size limit is too tiny to make it worth while..:(

It varies based on the weather and traffic, but with my HAI setup and grill block, it's almost always over 120 degrees F. Today on the freeway, with an outside average temp of 70+ degrees F, I was able to average over 130 degrees F. I think it was even higher, maybe 140+, but I forgot to watch it closely today, :mad: .

If I can find some time this weekend I will take it out and take some pictures.

If you can make your JPEG just under 100K, then you can upload it without being rejected. I can change the JPEG compression using Paint Shop Pro, so I mess with the compression until my chosen image is just under 100K.

Seeing 50 to 80 F over outside temps with 80% blocked front grille.

Thats a nice HAI.

I just posted about mine actually, outside is 46° today, intake at idle was 140° and @ 2,000 rpms it was 126° off-load.

I used a temp sensor on my digital multimeter it's somewhat accurate. See thread for photos

I was able to upload the same exact pictures on my
other forum that has a limit of 97.7 KB for jpeg pictures.. :confused:

I believe they have their upload setup to auto resize automatically no matter what the size..

I used the tubing from a K&N Intake setup..
It wasn't intended to use the factory airbox..
heat gun, dremel, ect.. ;)

This is a deck plate lid.. they use these on boats..

It has a water tight screw in cap that I've left open..
for now it sucks in under hood air with a grill block..
I shoved a rag in the opposite side of the airbox where the cold air came from through the fender..

I'd love to figure out a setup so I can switch back to cold
air (on the fly) so i don't detionate if I need to get on it..

I'm still workin on this, not completly finished yet..

What I'd like to see are peoples results in tempuature and what
the outside tempuature was at the time your intakes temp was measured...

Very nice Chris, it doesn't get much simpler than that when you want something you can turn on and off at will.

I'd like to have a setup that'll switch from hot to cold air
intake with the flip of a switch or due to a lack in vacuum..

I remember talks of using a volvo air box but nothig came of it on the thread.

That is exactly how mine is setup, hooked to manifold vacuum. Low vacuum equals CAI and high vacuum equals WAI/HAI. A3 (1993-1999) VW 2.0L air box has dual inlets and a vacuum controlled flapper to switch back and forth.
