How many miles a week do you drive?

I was doing the math the other day and it turns out that in the 15 weeks I've owned my Geo I'm averaging 520 miles per week, or 74.2 miles per day. Where do ya'll fall into?

Danncomm 08-04-2010 04:29 AM

I do warranty repairs all over north central Iowa. 500 miles is nothing in a week, in fact there have been weeks that monday night returning from work I have put on that many miles,

brucey 08-04-2010 04:34 AM

I change my oil once a month. So about 3k to 5k a month.

Daox 08-04-2010 07:23 AM

~40 miles per day, so 200-250 or so a week.

Nevyn 08-04-2010 07:48 AM

~140 miles/workday, plus 30-150 depending on weekend activities. Call it 800 miles/week?

gone-ot 08-04-2010 09:59 AM

...by the numbers, roughly: (1) 26.2 miles each way; (2) five days per week; (3) plus ~50 miles city on weekends; equals (4) 312 miles / week.

hamsterpower 08-04-2010 10:51 AM

Most days I don't drive at all. Somehow I still use nearly a tank a month. I do fly up to 500 miles each day for work though.

Mustang Dave 08-04-2010 09:24 PM

175 during the warmer months excepting road trips. 279-296 during ski season.

Angmaar 08-04-2010 09:43 PM

Summer:132 Miles/Week (Work)
School:30 Miles/Week (During the warmer months I will bike to school)

sl2eggplant 08-04-2010 09:59 PM

With my new temp job, I'm driving 200/day at 4 days a week for a minimum of 800 miles ... and sometimes a 5th day.

comptiger5000 08-04-2010 10:05 PM

Most weeks, I'm around 80 - 110 miles. However, there are some that get up to 200 or so, maybe even a bit more. Fortunately, I don't drive a ton, so I get at least a week (at worst), or as much as 2 weeks from a tank of gas in the beast. Of course, when I'm traveling to college, I'll burn a tank (estimated 17 - 18 gallons at fillup) in about 7 hours... Fortunately, that won't happen more than twice (once each way) every couple of months.

cfg83 08-04-2010 11:52 PM

honestabe -

I put in 250-300, but it's probably closer to the upper end of 300-350.

About 9.5 gallons a week. 560 miles.

Arragonis 08-05-2010 03:45 PM

I average about 160 miles to and from work most weeks with occasional uk stylee 'road trips' to see clients all over England.

As a contrast the MD of my company comes in once a week  and I still use less fuel than he does for the whole 7 days.

comptiger5000 08-05-2010 08:30 PM

Arragonis - What does the MD drive?

sid 08-05-2010 09:53 PM

Definitely less than 50 miles for a typical week. But I do take about 6 to 10 long driving trips a year. So my yearly average is probably about 7500 miles/year.

I also ride my bicycle about 120 miles during a typical week. But the weeks I take long driving trips I usually don't ride bike. Plus weather or other activities may interfere with my bike rides. So I typically ride my bike about 4500 miles/year.

Clev 08-06-2010 12:52 AM

65 each way, so 650 a week. (Sigh)

Supercharged Range Rover - He let me have a go for around 10 miles and used a gallon.

comptiger5000 08-06-2010 11:35 AM

Wow. 10mpg in town! That and the SRT8 Jeep (most report 8-10 mpg in town) have to be two of the few vehicles worse than mine for gas mileage.

Piwoslaw 08-09-2010 05:40 AM

On average: just shy of 150 miles per week.
But most often the car spends 2-3 weeks in the driveway without starting the engine, then does 600-700mi in a weekend. The average I got is based on the following calculation: 21000 km in about 21 months, which gives about 145 mi/week. On average, of course.

TheEnemy 08-09-2010 01:09 PM

Most weeks I'm just shy of 100 miles.

My average over a year though is probably arround 200-300

Soulster 08-21-2010 09:50 PM

32.3 miles one way to work every day, and add an extra 4 miles daily during the semester (college is almost right on my drive to work).

I've had my car since February and have 13K on it already.

MARTINSR 08-23-2010 11:13 AM

One of the ways I "Hypermile" is I got a job close to me and have a 5.4 mile commute. :D

taco 08-23-2010 12:14 PM

650 just to work, and about 200 on the weekends.

MetroMPG 08-23-2010 02:02 PM

This year I've put less than 50L (13 US gal.) of fuel in the Firefly ... but I also haven't taken any big road trips in 2010. Might go to the east coast in the fall...

Almost all my local travel has been by bicycle - and we've had great weather this spring/summer.

I answered 0-50 miles.

vinny1989 08-23-2010 02:35 PM

200-250 miles per week, just for work and seeing friends. I fill up about 2-3 times a week :(

tim3058 08-23-2010 08:46 PM

About 480 mi/wk here, mostly commute to work. vinny1989, I hear you there. When I was driving the truck I would put $20 in every other day so it didn't feel as painful... now $27 gets me at least a week's worth of driving... :D

Ha ha, that's egg-zactly what I do, except I think it's every 3rd day on average. I don't top off the tank, I fill the tank from the 1/4 mark to the 3/4 mark all the time. That puts me in the range of ~5 gallons, so I can stay in the $20 range.

Interesting how the poll is going now. The greatest groups are the under 50 and over 500. It seems that we either minimize driving, or try to get the best efficiency possible.

320touring 08-24-2010 08:50 AM

25 mile round commute to work at the moment, 5 days a week, plus 2 large 100+ trips per week to see my and her parents.

Moving house soon, so going to a 50 mile round trip for work, but thankfully closer to said parents- meaning less long distance..

Except I'll probably start touring the West Coast of Scotland again...

gasstingy 08-24-2010 09:04 AM

I do a 40 mile RT commute x 5 days weekly, plus 100 or so on the weekends. Looking forward to a decently priced EV so my Rio can be used for the weekend trips alone. I selected 300 to 350.

AeroModder 08-24-2010 12:45 PM

Roughly 40 a day 5 times a week. Used to fill up the tank every week before ecomodding. Now it lasts a couple more days.

Yeah I'm surprised... I would have expected a Bell curve with average voter somewhere in 200-300 range - the results so far are totally the reverse.

TheDon 08-29-2010 08:47 PM

90 miles a day roundtrip to UCF... really trying hard to get 27 mpg in my car. I really wish I could unload it and get a TDI anything

+1 for getting a TDI. My stock TDI gets 47mpg without much effort.

1,100 mile round trip between 1 & 3 times per month plus my regular 300 miles per week. So rough average is 850/week.
