How many that P&G have a low battery?
 

I use P&G alot. My battery / Alternator suck.or maybe nott?

How many others cars cant keep the battery upto charge when you P&G alot?

If I have a highway exit soon I will have to idle in neutral to charge the battery before i have to keystart at a red light I will get caught at down the road.

Now I charge it Like every other day. how often do you charge your cars battery?

I keep an eye on my voltmeter and top it off as needed. This seems to be almost every day. I could probably get away with every other day, but I think that would effect my battery's life, and I'd like to keep it healthy as long as possible.

I never charged the battery once in the Black Widow, and I P&G-ed and EOC-ed non-stop for months on end. I also go to work well before daylight, so mornings I would be doing it with the headlights on. Not once did it ever fail to start, so I'd say you have a weak battery, alternator, short, loose starter wire, etc . . . .

Eventually I bump started pretty much 99.5% of the time, and only when I was unfortunate enough to actually have to stop did I ever key-start. I'm sure that had something to do with it staying relatively charged, but if you're bump starting most of the time, there's a problem with your charging system somewhere

My kid is also doing a lot of EOC & P&G in the Black Widow these days, and he's never had a problem either.

Yes old KIA's are infamous for having crap alternators and crap brakes..
Every time i bumpstart I get a loud CCCRRKKKKRKRCCCKK from the alternator.
The other day I went in the under ground tunnel and it was funny having it squeak everytime I did a bumpstart up the hill. the tunnel is like this U
I also have a radio and power windows taking battery.



And many many traffic lights in maryland. I take the highway as much as possible tho#!

I have an automatic so I don't engine off coast except to coast to a full red light.
I use a 1.8 amp solar charger

I keep solar panels on the car as well, and since I don't drive daily, it's a decent solution.

But at this time of year (cold), battery performance is already degraded, so I do a lot less P&G or coasting with the engine off. Or if I'm on a long enough trip, I do much less engine-off toward the end of the trip to ensure I park the car with a decent state of charge in the battery.

I do a lot of EOC coasting (up to 20% of tank miles). Last summer I noticed my volt gauge showed 10.8 volts at the end of a very long EOC (lights on).

After that I started "trickle" charging twice a day with a 3.3 amp CTEK charger. I charged overnight and also once I got to the shop. It took about 2 hours each time to charge the battery back up. I noticed about a 3 MPG pick up from this procedure, because the alternator was not charging as much while driving.

This is what got me looking at adding the alternator delete on the red 92 VX.

Watching your voltages with the sg? If so, what are you seeing? I don't do a lot of eoc'ing, so more of my observations are short term. I've noticed holding my brake drops my voltage surprisingly fast (lights up 7 bulbs), faster than having headlights on at night for me, so using parking brake or shifting to park helps at longer lights

I trickle charge overnight daily in winter, and weekly in summer.

I have a MPGuino but also have an aftermarket digital voltage gauge (I am an information geek). Usually the gauge would sink to 11.7 volts on a long EOC, but finally it dropped lower and I knew I was putting a real strain on the battery.

So far the water and oil pre-heat and the alternator delete have allowed me to maintain the same MPG I was getting last summer.
