How many streamlined roadgoing motorcycles are there?
In a group discussion with some other motorcycle hypermiling enthusiasts the subject of how many fully streamlined motorcycles are actually on public roads. I decided to start a list of the ones I am aware of and with the help of this forum to identify others that I don't know about. I'm only including 2-wheeled motorcycles for now but we can start another list for those.
the list so far: North America: 1. Craig Vetter, Honda Helix 250cc streamliner(*) 2. Fred Hayes, Hayes Diesel * 3. Alan Smith, Kawasaki Ninja 250cc * 4. Ron Johnston, Honda Ascot 500cc *, Canada 5. Vic Valdes, Kawasaki Ninja 250cc * 6. Ben Schloop, Yamaha 185cc * 7. Terry Hershner, Zero Electric * Almost fully streamlined 8. Kraig Schultz, electric * 9. Virginia Tech Ninja 250cc * 10. Jeff Meskey , Ninja 250cc * Europe: 11. Allert Honda 125 *, Holland 12. Janvos Suzuki Bergmann 650cc *, Belgium 13. Evomoto Honda 125cc *, Germany 14. Project 100, Honda 90cc *, GB If you know of others please let me know and I'll add it to the list. thank you, L&S |
Ecomobile and Monotracer, Phasar and Quasar by Malcolm Newell, Royce Creasey's Voyager to name but few. Lots more in the UK at bikeweb.com
Sorry I'm unable to post a direct link (less than 5 posts). |
I've also added another photo of my own creation to my profile. Not quite finished, I'll post more information after completion and testing.

While there will be more than what you've come up with, they are still rare as hens' teeth ...

Ironside, Thank you for the additional streamliners. Its seems that most of the manufactured streamliners( Ecomobile, Monotracer, Phasar and Quasar ) are designed more as high-speed sports vehicles than to use their reduced air drag to maximize their fuel economy. Still definitely worthy of being on the list. Kudos to you on your excellent project!!!
I'll also add a list of 3-wheeled streamliners as they are some outstanding hypermiling performers like John Hickey's Hyper Rockets. |
I know of at least one more. I passed a streamlined goldwing in New York, south of Buffalo. The front looked similar to the Vetter design, but I didn't get a good look at the rear. I did see they were riding two up, but it was pouring and I couldn't slow down.

Small correction.
My Burgman is with a 385 cc engine. This is still a very small list . I hope that more active enthousiasts will follow. |
Vic, how about adding each riders location. I am in Sandy, Utah (just south of Salt Lake)
Does "almost" mean not quite finished or not completely enclosed? Jeff Meskey |
Don't forget the Lit Motors C-1 in development.

If I quit screwing around, I should have mine on the road next year. Stuff has come up and interrupted the build, but I must admit to procrastination too.:turtle: Winter cold will again be a hindrance. A nice heated shop would make a difference. (if nothing more than a place to get away):D
