how much have we used (crude oil)

Just gave it a thought and a small amount of time researching it. Maybe 68 trillion gallons in the last 100 years? 365 X 100 x 40 million x 45 gpb?

That's a lot of dead dinosaurs.

Thoughts?

7.3 pounds per gallon, 55 pounds per cubic foot.

68 trillion X 7.3 = say 500 trillion pounds (rounded off)

500 tp / 55 (per cu-ft)= 9 trillion cubic feet

1 cubic mile is 147,197,952,000 cubic feet

9,000,000,000,000 / 147,197,952,000

roughly 1323 cubic miles or a cube of 11X11x11 miles.

any corrections for gross discrepancey?

doesn't seem like a huge number considering?

And to think how many colonists we could have landed on the moon with all that energy...

Its makes me sick to think with fuel prices dropping now, that the average consumer in my area is now considering trading in their fuel efficient vehicle, and purchasing a much larger vehicle to haul their ass around in.

Full size 4WD Truck, Motor Home, Boats, ATV sales are going through the roof now. Why don't Americans keep their small efficient vehicle and take the money they will save with the lower fuel prices and pay off some of their debt???????????????????

I can only guess they are not long term thinkers? Last 10 days $12.58, none today.

edit 10 days not 13. Still $1.258 a day.

I always figured it would be better to have an ATV then trying put mud tires and a lift kit on a pickup or SUV in an effort to turn it into some kind of half arse ATV for the 0.1% of mileage the pickup or SUV would actually be driven off road.

Just think, the people who could barely afford to put gas in their gas hog vehicle 9 months ago are likely going out and getting an even bigger gas hog.

People cease to amaze me.

Keep in mind there is plenty of dead stuff under ground turning to coal, gas, oil, etc every day. Dinos arent the only source. We got cave men, plants, bugs, etc all inline to turn to fuel.

Have a look at the website linked below...crude oil is about half way down...how many barrels pumped today, and how many there are left to pump...lol.

Worldometers - real time world statistics

I've had two people tell me recently that they want to buy new 4x4's due to the low price of gas...one guy wants a Jeep, and the other a Toyota 4x4.

Me...I don't care how cheap gas gets...I still hate buying the stuff and will continue to try and use s little as possible.

The earth's volume is about 268,000,000,000 cubic miles, about 1 200 millionth of that volume is recovered petroleum, enough to cover the surface to a depth of 4/10s of one inch.
