How would you clean this ????
 

I have had this cover for about 1 1/2 years now and the edge closest to my face has turned yellow. I know why, and theres not much I can do about it. I have severe cystic acne which if not annoying enough creates enough oil to lubricate a small two stroke engine. Unfortunantely at night all of my linens and mainly this very expensive down comforter absorb most of it. Not to mention it being transfered to the paint on my walls. So my question is how the heck can I try and clean this. I have washed it before to no avail it is still here. I have rubbed it down with vinegar thinking that may break up the oils but it doesn't. I'm scared to use bleach for not being sure what it will do to the innards.

Have you tried Shout? It usually works pretty good on stains if you spray it on and let it soak for a couple hours before washing.

I have tried shout and it work on maybe what would be considered the "newer" stains but the stuff thats been there a while it didn't do much.

I think soaking it a couple minutes in diluted javel water before washing would do the trick. That's how mom did it with my white socks when I was a kid.

Whats javel water? I may be too young to remember that if its not mainstream now.

I used to work at a job that was sooo dirty (ink actually) we had to wear two pair of clothes (2 shirts & 2 pants)!!!

You wore your 'clean' clothes on the inside, and your dirty clothes on the outside.

You NEVER washed your outside clothes - you just let them rot off of you - then you replaced them with the ones inside, and bought a new set of inside clothes - kinda like a snake shedding it's skin, you know (no pun intended)?

I'm just telling you this because I'm an expert on cleaning dirty cloth...

Having said that, the best thing I've found for cleaning dirty, stained cloth is

[drumroll]...

Carbonate of Soda AKA Washing Soda AKA Sal Soda.

I've always used Arm & Hammer Sal Soda (now called "Super Washing Soda").

If 'Sal Soda' doesn't get it out... nothing will! ;)

BTW, for everyone else, this stuff works GREAT on shop towels too! Just let 'em pre-soak for a couple of days (in a PLASTIC bucket) then take them down to your local laundamat for a tumble wash... :thumbup:

Er... you can wash shop towels in your wife's washer, but I don't suggest it!

You might also try soaking in a water and powdered bleach solution. Clorox 2

This is a serious reply to a genuine question.

I use the stuff sold to clean nappies / diapers.

Warm water , half a cup of this stuff in a plastic bucket and leave overnight as a minimum.

No idea what it is but it does work. It is not chlorine based.

The local brand name is NappySan.

For sebacious stains, I find 1 cup of ammonia combined with detergent in every wash keeps ahead of it pretty well.

When the stain is old, it often has been 'set' in and may not come out. You've tried vinegar, you can try ammonia but not both at the same time. You could also try an oxygen-based bleach.
