94 Civic CX D15B8 engine rebuild

Hello to everyone,
I just signed up but am not new to the site. Thanks to this site and contributors I have saved lots of $$$$. I read alot on body mods, and how to drive but not much on actual engine building. I have a all stock d15b8, 8 valve, 5 speed, in my civic and manage to average mid to high 40s pretty easily with no mods just driving techniques and some extra tire pressure. I have an extra motor (d15b8) that was giving to me and am considering building it for max mpg. I would like to know if anyone done so and whats the best way to go. Such as cylinder head, light weight internals, clutch, pistons, crank, compression, balance and deburring, etc... looking to save money so need reasonable priced options to stock parts. Also the big question: is it worth it? how much mpg can you gain over a stock motor?

Thanks

unless you have a vx transmission i dont think youll see much of a difference with that engine. i think that youd be better off trying out aero mods; grill and foglight block, underbelly, wheel skirts, antenna delete, passenger mirror delete, rear and passenger wiper delete..........

sorry for digging this thread up

Actually, the CX trans is the same as the VX trans so he's set already.

Things you can try in your rebuild:
Cryo treating the pistons and rods and crankshaft
Low friction coating on the pistons
Knife-edging the crankshaft
