Hows the storm near you?
I am heading to bed now, I'm sick as a bad metaphor.
How is everyone doing in the storm? Just rain and winds in Ohio, we are having real high water and waves at the lake. Everybody else doing okay? |

Called my youngest brother this AM at high tide. He raised his house 9 feet when Isabel put 2.5 feet of water in his living room. I almost fell down laughing when he told me he was "fishing for car parts". A plastic container with some of his sons car parts had floated out of his garage into the neighbors yard and he was casting his fishing rod trying to hook the bucket before it got too far away. He had 2 feet of water in his garage but the much larger garage in the back was still 6 inches above the high tide.
I think this is my fathers 15th hurricane experience, but it really doesn't count unless there are hurricane force winds. When he was 12 (1933) his father moved his family to a hotel in downtown Norfolk. The 1933 storm wiped willoughby spit clean of houses. The spit was formed in a storm in 1649 that raised the Chesapeake Bay water level by 15 feet and formed the spit. The Hampton Roads Bridge Tunnel does not land on the spit when it gets to Norfolk because the spit is liable to get wiped out again in a storm. All we got where I live is rain and some wind. but not enough to do any damage, but we did dodge a bullet with this storm. It could have been much worse and it seems like NYC got lucky as well. but they will not know for sure until tomorrow morning. Lived near the coast most of my life. regards Mech |
here in the eastern suburbs of cleveland, I experienced lost power for about 5 hours, but that seems to be the extent of the damage. I don't have school tomorrow :D and I heard there was a fire somewhere close by, but I don't see how someone could have caught their house on fire with all the rain we've had for the past 2 days.
The fastest gust I've recorded so far was 49 mph which isn't too bad. |
well powers out in the areas around me but not where im at so it must be bad i never lose power

We had the rain and wind. Neither of which were as bad as anticipated, but still relatively violent for my area. A few small trees down, some minor damages, but all in all nothing too bad. I hope those closer to the coast aren't too bad.

...got a recorded message from my NYC-based insurance company that they're closed-down for "inclement weather" issues -- talk about understatement!

It wasn't too bad a few miles South of Lake Ontario. Quite windy, but very little damage. I drove up to the lake to see the twenty foot waves, but they were nowhere near that big.

All my people in NYC and North Jersey and Eastern PA are safe, though some were still in the dark last night. I don't know that this site will see much posting from Jersey people for a couple more days or a week. Towns I haunted as a kid are underwater, Asbury Park, Seaside Heights, Hoboken, parts of Manhattan. :(

I heard there was terrible flooding.
