hyundai i10 1,1 or 1,2

looking at downgrading the suv and get a little cheap runaround. it will be second hand but i am unsure of what engine size. here we get them in the 1,1 and 1,2 engine. logic will tell you the smaller engine will give better millage but according to this website not.

also this country has very hilly terrain so not sure how the smaller engine will cope vs the 100cc's more of the 1.2?

I have a Honda Jazz 1.2, and Honda superseded it with the 1.3, for better fuel economy.

did some research and found there is quite a difference in the engines. 1.1 being 8 valve and 16 valve for the 1.2. think i will go for the 1.2 if one comes up in my price range

The 8-valve 1.1L actually doesn't seem to be so bad, even though it has a marginally lower peak torque. At least the peak torque is delivered at a lower RPM range.

People who report better milage from bigger engines generally aren't hypermilers.

It depends. But in such a small car, I would not disconsider the smaller engine since the load factor is also low.

I'd go for the Twincam for what should be better volumetric efficiency. In the end the fuel use for the extra 0.1l isn't going to make a significant difference.

I'm happyish with my little Proton SOHC, but am basically wishing the whole time it had a DOHC and an extra 0.1l.

I'd go for what is better mantained, even though the presumably easier repairability and more ruggedness of the SOHC would be a valuable asset.
