I just bought a crx :)

So after my previous discussions regarding a triumph gt6 and a calibra, i somehow ended up with a crx vtec ( uk model - im in the uk ! ) lol :)
Now someone mentioned that the hf model doesnt have a rear wiper and this lowered the cd by 0.01 . Ok well mine has this wiper and it also has a pretty large ( standard ) spoiler. Not sure if its available on us models? Would you advise removing this or keeping it or swapping to a non vtec spoiler? pictures follow.
Heres my spoiler ( not my car but same spoiler ) -

Here is the non vtec

Any opinions? :)

I actually have heard that the HF's thin tires were the cause of the lower cd, but who knows for real?

Anyway, that's a sweet ride! Congrats.

Nice looking car. I'd yank that spoiler. And the wiper. (It doesn't rain in England, does it?) :)

Gorgeous CRX! The non-VTec spoiler looks like the way to go. If you remove the rear wiper, you can use Rain-X to keep the window clean in the rain.

Very nice car :) I would probably have got one of these in the end if I was still in the UK, but they are SO expensive here in NZ! Also nice to see UK hypermilers now - I felt like I was the only one while I was there.

I would say remove the spoiler, make some nice, removeable rear wheel skirts, sprayed in the same colour, that can be unclipped for changing tyres, leave the aerial tucked in when possible, fold the passenger mirror when not needed BUT be careful to look for bikes etc when moving off at traffic lights. When the tyres are getting close to time for change, try to change to either LRR tyres if you can (I wonder if the Honda Insight ones would fit?), or at least get tyres which have a high sidewall pressure so you can pump them up a lot.

Since you have the VTEC model your economy won't be as good as the HF models. However, given the light weight and the good aero, EOCing will likely return huge increases in mileage. If you had a fuel economy gauge that would probably let you get very high MPGs in a short time (note that I got 42MPG max in a Bluebird Turbo in the UK, but this went up to 65MPG for short-commutes with a cold engine, across a whole tank, once I had a SuperMID installed!). My SuperMID is here but I do have a spare in the UK if you were interested!!

Hey all its been a while.
Just wanted to say im still here and still got the 'rex.

I have not really done anything to it lately, however today i think ill be possibly attempting a spoiler and rear wiper delete.
I may also be removing the antenna housing also.

I do plan on keeping this car sporty + stylish , aswell as keeping it as aero friendly as possible.

I have just read though , that honda did actually windtunnel the vtec spoiler and the 16v spoiler ( the flush fit type ), however im guessing they were more aimed at a little extra downforce.

Europe/Britain didnt have the speed limitations ( like in japan ) and had the vtec engine ( so can go pretty fast ) and the 16v D engine ( pretty fast also ) , this is where i am guessing they designed it for performance rather than any sort of economy gain.

I also like the look of a flush tailgate.
I do also plan on getting a " mugen style " rear ducktail spoiler, like seen in this picture ( the black one - nicest crx in the world if you ask me) , the blue one is basically exactly the same as mine looks :)

This is essentially creating a slightly longer rear end, so there may be some benefit ? Opinions ?

the black one looks pretty aerodynamic...

I can't see the original pictures you posted though... :-\

Me too.

I think you need to "rehost" the pictures or attach them to the original post.

The CR-X Vtec (Si-R in Japan) has a B16 1.6 liter DOHC Vtec engine in it. Your engine wasn't designed AT ALL for economy, you basically got the race-version of the CR-X.

If you're considering modding that car, stop it :P It's invaluable. It's so rare to find that particular model (that I'm aware of, anyway). Sell that car for it's actual value and buy another CR-X, preferably the HF model.

Mugen makes/made a flush mount rear spoiler that is essentially a hatch-extension for your car.
If you want to permanently remove the rear wiper, remove the whole hatch and find one in the same color that doesn't have it. It's a lot easier than doing body work, you'll actually get money out of it, and you can change the weather seal while the hatch is off.

The antenna can be removed easily and replaced with a block off plate that costs about $2 US from Honda. It's a piece of plastic that screws in using the factory hardware, and comes with a new gasket.

Chris, I don't think the UK got the HF model. I believe that was North America only... Importing one would be an expensive proposition.

The CRX Vtec is not a very common beastie, so I personally would be tempted to leave it alone.
