I miss vent windows

Yeah, my wife always needs the heater, and I'm always hot. My '90 CRX had a vent lever that hooked my left side vent up to outside air, so I could have frigid air blow on my face, keeping me awake, while she enjoyed toasty heated air.

In my younger days, cars had vent windows that would grab cool air passing outside the car.

My first car, a '54 Plymouth Plaza, even had an air grabber at the rear of the hood to bring in fresh air.

I miss all of these.

Not me. The Superbeetle and Dasher both have them.

One of the first times I took my wife with me in the '67 Beetle, it was a warm day and I had her open her vent window. She was impressed and asked, "Why don't all cars have these??" :D

A lot of '67s were regressed to Cal-Look windows. The longer glass interferes with the door stop, so they had to be replaced with a cable or cloth strap.

Yeah, thank goodness some cars escaped that molestation. ;)

Don’t forget “Vent Visors” we bought for coupes or sedans (hardtops had frameless glass) to enable wet weather operation. The smokers friend.

Vent windows and floor vents. Crack all windows slightly and adjust these two items to suit. As above, sometimes some heat to avoid cold feet. But cool forehead. A great day on the highway. Not sealed off from The Great Outdoors, but not worn down by wind blast. And no wind whistle.

Listen to that big V8 as it flattened hills and got the miles. (That was one fine day on the road. Freshly serviced and never skips a beat)

Too humid or dusty? Turn on AC.

Usually on cars without trunk-lid escape ventilation as we rolled into the 1970s. AC was profitable. And nearly universal.

Best would have been those items, standard escape venting, and a cable operated escape vent to speed things along.

And since I’m on the subject, fresh air plus recirc air filters.

.

DAMN! That was almost poetic!

I know some new cars have separate temperature settings for driver and passenger, but, with the exception of the driver's outside vent feature on the CRX, I've never owned one. Opening my front side window gets complaints from my wife "Can you PLEASE close that window? I'm freezing!"

A driver's side outside air vent, and an open-able rear escape flap, would be ideal.

Cool air for me, heated air for her.

Try one of those heater pads for seats. You can slowly cook your passangers.

I also have a cheap blanket that folds in to a pillow for passangers or if i need to take a nap.

On road trips in the summer I tell people to bring a sweater. (I like the cold).

I remember in the '50s, owners of cars without AC could buy a wind driven, window hanging evaporative coolers. Maybe a window hung, vent with vanes that direct the air at the driver, and one for the rear with vanes to direct the air out.

Some of us haven't forgotten. I had a passive swamp cooler. It takes the rear pop-outs to have airflow to make it work. One open on the opposite side would be about right. The front and rear pop-outs are not stock, but the South African side trim is.

My son's SRT-8 has a sensor in the dashboard that monitors the IR signature of the front seat passengers and modulates the heated seats appropriately.
