I want to build a MPGuino, where do I start?
 

I've read some of the stuff I could find on the matter. I was looking for the most current information.

What is the difference between the Adrunio and the IDunio? Can the same code be used?

Where can I find the latest version?

Any information would help to start at the right spot. I understand how the unit gets made and how it is connected to the vehicle. I've never messed with the code so I will be new to that. I understand the you download it and then load it into the unit. Then a few of the parameters needs to be tweeked after verifying with math, compared to what the car really did.

Check the mpguino subforum and the page on ecomodder.com/wiki. All the info should be there. Dave (dcb) is also selling preassembled units.

I'd go for (and did go for) the preassembled unit personally. Its only $15 more and you only need to make an enclosure.

I ordered a kit for my self last week from Fundamental Logic (isn't this where dcb sells them?). They are in a back order status though. Some patience is required at this point. They probably need to get enough orders to justify a restock purchase. I don't know if this backorder includes pre-assembled units.

Word of advice, the iDuino based one is jumpy (the VSS for some reason just doesn't stay steady). I have no experience with the kits that dcb or Spiffed sell. I have heard that the "from scratch" ones work well and are "rock solid", but I would expect that the kits would be also.

I don't think kevin (spiffed) is shipping with the latest software. I added a vss fix since .73 or whatever he is using.

I wanted the experience of building it myself. I know I could handle that part, I've made stuff like that before. I realize the price is so close if I bought a prebuilt unit I would be saving money. I just want to make sure I get the right parts and that I can get the latest version of the software most people are running. I've opened the page with the software on it and it looks like a lot of garble. But I don't need to fully understand how to write it, just to tweek the values associated with tuning it, right?

Correct, you don't need to know how the code works, all you need to know is how to calibrate the values for your car, and it's very easy to do that.

I went with the iDuino homemade version first, but it ended up being a really sloppy soldering job, and just turned into a big mess. I then bought the spiffie.org kit, and everything came together really nicely. If you really want to build it yourself, then I would recommend the kit - getting all the parts on your own can result in a unit that's hard to debug if it doesn't work right, because you might not be using the exact same parts that everyone else has. If it's backordered, email them, they usually know about when they will be coming back.

Of course the preassembled version really makes the most sense right now, you don't have to worry about installing diodes backwards, or anything like that.
