New addition to the family fleet!
We picked up a 2013 Toyota Matrix with the 1.8L 2ZR-FE and a 5-speed manual. $3750 seemed like a fair price. Some surface rust underneath. It's the eventual replacement for a rusty 2008 Prius that has pretty much every warning light on. The Prius is still going, but at 275,000 miles, it needs more work than it's worth.
It's technically my parents' car, but I do 95% of the driving. I really wanted a manual for both fun and hypermiling! The shifter feels terrible. Maybe it needs new bushings somewhere.
Why not another Prius? I believe the 2nd gen Prius is getting too old to be reliable. I think the 3rd gen is less reliable. The 4th gen is out of our budget at this time. And I kinda wanted a simpler car. No hybrid stuff, no touchscreen, simple braking system, cheap parts.
Impossible to find, but I would've taken a 1993-1997 Corolla Wagon. Or another Civic Wagon! I like the 2nd gen Fit, but they don't last on salty roads.
And what everyone here (is anyone here?) wants to know! I got an indicated (ScanGaugeE) 40 MPG driving on Route 81 in NY at around 70 MPH. That's a great start in my opinion!
Prius wheels fit! I'm thinking (hoping) that will be worth a couple of MPG. It has 205/55-16 tires on steel wheels now. 195/65-15 on lightweight Prius wheels should make some difference.
