I'm out.
I've stopped ecomodding years ago.
I've stopped caring about what car I drive or what car I'll get next. I don't even care if I keep owning a car. The market has me very depressed. But no more. Sorry for the rant, but I'm sick of all this nonsense. Cars are nonsense already. I'm sick of hearing about how practical and fun and cool they are, because they aren't. I'm sick of being told that these gargantuan behemoths make life so much better. With the uncertainty of the car and car parts market, the lack of affordable models and the ups and downs of the used car market I just don't want to talk about cars with anyone ever again. What car you buy is no longer just a fashion statement nor an attempt to prove how rich you are but is also a political statement. Talking about cars is pointless. It's all based on people's highly divided political views and their agendas. Nobody cares about an individual's wants and needs. So I'm out. I don't want to talk about ecomodding or cars or fuel prices or tariffs or any of the such ever again. I may or may not keep driving my car. I may or may not get another if this one goes past repairability. If there's something in the paper that looks like it might make my life a little easier, I'll think about it to myself for a while before commiting. But I'm not going to come here or anywhere else asking or advice. I've had a lot of fond memories in my old cars. Lots of trips we enjoyed as a family. Lots of things we got through as a family together thanks to our cars. But now I feel stupid because I own a car. Cars are just depressing. Thanks to all who have helped me in the past, whether it was choosing a car or figuring out if a screen under the carburetor would get me better fuel mileage or other such things. I wish the best for all of you, including the ones who aren't on this forum anymore either. I hope the best for the economy and president and everything else too. I just don't want to talk about it or even think about it. |
Thanks it was fun. I remember the screen under the carb discussion.
I'm in the same place, but don't have any other online presence. Neither car has moved in a week. |
Cars have always been a status symbol and an expression of personality. Their function as a status symbol and expression of personality has diminished over the years, not increased. Perhaps the ensuing ennui is why cars don't excite us anymore.
My disinterest occurred early on, after having fixed up my dad's CB750 motorcycle and realizing cages are for animals. |
I surf here occasionally but I am no longer pursuing extreme fuel mileage over fun driving experiences. You will laugh, one day I drove my wife’s Lincoln Navigator to work and I wondered why I was driving a Metro. It was so nice and quiet and it has a great stereo that has great bass. I found the L series Saturns. They are a GM Europe car variant of the Opel Vectra B. Same as the Saab 95 and early 93. I have had several Saturns since then, I have grandchildren driving them and I have a sweet leather premium sound 2002 L200/5 sedan. I really enjoy driving this 30 mpg car. Sure there are better mileage cars out there but I am perfectly happy with this car.
So I will retire at 70 in the next year with a 40+ year old GMC Turbo Diesel pickup, my 23 year old Saturn and my 20 year old Lincoln happy and debt free. It has been fun and a good learning experience as to what is important to me and mine. Andy- Me and my Metro. Adios |
' out '
I've been walking the edge since 1973. I suppose it's the masochist in me that keeps me going.
And being from a different universe helps too. |
Your Post/Thanks/Thanked ratio suggest you have a generally grateful attitude.
I reserve the right to retire at 30,000 posts. |

Good Lord willin' and my blood pressure don't rise...

Nothin autistic about that at all. I'd have gone down that math if Xist hadn't.

Autists rule. I'd noticed your Thanks/Thanked ratio 4374/4545, that is a 96.19% correspondence.
