I'm starting to get more and more concerned about fuel use...
So yesterday confirmed to me personally that i'm starting to get into this whole fuel saving thing for real now. I was going through one of those drive through car washes and I reflexively keyed off......I never would have considered doing that before I joined here! I also coast to full stops way more often now and get really annoyed at red lights/city driving in general lol!

Your timing is terrible - have you seen gas prices lately? :)
Just kidding! Congrats on working in some new habits. Think of how much fuel you'll save in a lifetime of doing those & other things. |
Yeah lol! its kinda ironic that I started doing this when gas is record low

I'm with ya, Striker. I've been "lurking" (such an appropriate word) for a while, and like you, exposing myself to the dialog has helped me save gas without effort.
I learned to be gentle on the controls early in my life. My first car was 1967 Intentional Scout pick-up. The windshield wipers were vacuum driven. Lean on the gas peddle too hard in the rain, and the wipers stop. I've done some of these things to my vehicles over the years. But this sight has put me back under the hood. My 95 achieva gets 26 mpg when the ambient temp is below 30 degrees, and 27-30 mpg in the summer. Some old step flashing and duck tape (15-20 minutes) now keeps me warmer under the hood. I think my mpg improved, but there to many variables on this car to document progress. |

And welcome to the forum... or for de-lurking. |

My Land Rover got a little less than what you're getting in your truck, check out Turtle's page in the garage to see where I started out and where I am now. |
Well if you are considering buying a fuel efficient car or selling a truck/SUV, now is the time. The ignorant masses are abandoning their small cars in droves because everyone wants a truck or SUV when gas gets cheap.
It will shoot up to $4 a gallon soon enough, but I really hope I am wrong on that. When gas goes back up a lot of people will freak out because its going to really effect their standard of living. Don't be like those people. |
I'm old enough to remember vacuum powered wipers, and more than one swing in fuel prices. It doesn't take long for people to put more consideration in the stereo, than fuel efficiency.

The citroen 2cv's windshield wipers are powered by the speedometer :D The faster you go, the faster they wipe

'53 CJ5: vac driver's wiper and the passenger had to hand crank his!
