I'm at the Xprize! Links inside

Hello gang, I wanted to let everyone know I'm doing what Neil Blanchard did last month. I'm embedded with the Edison2: The Very Light Car (X PRIZE Contender) - Welcome team. I'm attempting to text/media blogg from the Xprize and am living, eating, and hanging with the team day and night. Major information overload!! If you want to know what it's like to travel into the heart of Xprize and 100mge, follow the links below.

FACEBOOK Welcome to Facebook

If anyone has any technical questions they want to ask any Xprize team, I'll be interviewing as many as tomorrow I can so please email me questions at xprizert@gmail.com and I'll make sure to get you answers. These surviving teams are extremely smart and very nice people.

Day 2, Part 2: Honesty Road Trip! 2010 Progressive Auto Xprize

I read the blog and looked at a few videos. Is there a lineup of cars with an explanation of their design concept? Are the rules for the competition posted somewhere?

MetroMPG 08-12-2010 10:20 PM

Thanks for keeping us updated, Eric.

Sure. Cars and info on them and teams are here: Teams | Progressive Automotive XPRIZE

All competition info is here:

Is this event open to the public? I might hypermile my way down there.

Sorry, you missed the boat big-time. There was a shakedown round in late April, a knockout round in June, and a final knockout round in July, all at the Michigan International Speedway. They did another phase, the coastdown, on August third, and now they're validating all data from the road tests by putting the cars on dynamometers. Their info on validation and how it's being done is nearly non-existent. Here's the link to their detailed information :-)

Unfortunately the only way to "go" to the automotive Xprize now is through my blog (*edit* and Neil's blog below). This is part of why I created it.

It's my "message in a bottle" so to speak. And from what I've dug up, other than Neil's blog, it's the only layperson's in-the-trenches account of what it feels like to experience the Automotive Xprize. That's something I was looking for from the media -- something more detailed, more visceral -- so I managed to create that for myself thanks to Oliver Kuttner from the Edison2 team.

I was at the Knockout Round (also as a volunteer/guest member of the Edison2 team, like Eric was for the Finals!), and I have a couple of blog entries:

A great video on lightweight tech. http://www.nasa.gov/mp4/482403main_NASA360-0217.mp4

Skip to 19:00 for a section on the Edison2 and a snippet of my own video (shot on a $100 point & shoot) shows up right at 22:00 (Ron Mathis)
