Impulse Emission Vapouriser Muffler
 

Shopping for mufflers online to replace my aging one, and hoping to find something lighter, thinner, and not noisy, I came across this one: Negative Supercharging Emission Vapouriser Muffler - Impulse Engine Technologies Pty Ltd - Australia

Perhaps it belongs in the unicorn corral, perhaps not, I don't know. Look at their emissions data. Given the recent discussion about CATs and cooling during EOC, this seems interesting. But I will not be getting one... it would not fit my car, I bet its costly, and well... I'm skeptical of the site's claims for FE and for some of the emissions benefits. What do you think?

The exhausts heat these plates right, and then the plates vaporise these emissions right, and the emissions couldn't be vaporised by the hot exhausts that heated the plates in the first place, right?

If you are worried about the converter operating too cool (and getting plugged up with soot) just relocate it close to the exhaust manifold, wrap it with exhaust wrap and seal it, do both or just do a cat delete.

I know, if they had said that the plates were stainless steel or some other potentially reactive metal, maybe. And I know a little about acoustics and I've never seen a muffler like that. I looked at another page, negative pressure supercharger engine kit I think. It reads like unicorn poop.

I noticed the NOx omission too in some of their results too. On another part of the site, IIRC, they showed that their muffler has little or no benefit with that pollutant, I think. But they posted video (edited video) of a comparative test between just a CAT and the CAT plus their "EV8" ... it shows what it alleges are sceenshots of the toyota's emissions: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VWw1dQkcMN8 As for the suspicion about gasses heating the plates that then reduce the gasses, I gather the point is that it seems circular and impossible. But certainly, cleaning out CO2 and other parts of the exhaust's composition does not mean the elimination of ALL the exhaust gas, correct? It's the toxics and other pollutant gasses they want to reduce, there would still be hot exhaust coming out of the tail pipe.

As I said, I'm not interested in buying one. In fact the real reason I posted it here is to subject it to the EM vetting. Sites are so rosy in their representations of their inventions... :( This thread's vetting now enters the interwebs' search results. :thumbup:

If the "CO" goes to nothing, I suppose they will claim that the O in CO is recombined to form more 02 ... but I agree it's fishy. I mean, where did the "C"(arbon) go? ... Wait a minute. I'll bet the emissions tester wouldn't measure raw carbon. Sooooo, that would imply (to me) that there is more uncombined carbon, aka soot, coming out, yes?!?!?
