Jaguar & Williams Grand Prix build a 0-100MPH in 6 seconds Prius!

A Prius like 89g/100km CO2 but 0-100MPH in 6 seconds (not at the same time obviously) and 800hp on tap.

Sounds a lot like building a Soviet tank for fuel efficiency...

Impressive. I wonder if the CO2 emissions figures are for pure gas with depleted batteries or if they're fudging it by driving just far enough for the gas engine to have to turn on.

Really need to get the word Prius out of the title..... That car ain't your nerds Prius!!!!!

I love jaguars!!!!!

Using the P-word while refering to a Grand Touring car fitted with an auxiliary electric drive is not so accurate, since the hybrid feature is getting widespread on them for reasons other than the plain eco-bragging.

The good news, of course, is that Toyota now apparently makes an affordable 55 MPG Jaguar :)

oldtamiyaphile 06-03-2014 06:36 AM

The reason for comparing to Prius is the CO2 ratings are identical.

Vman455 06-03-2014 01:43 PM

They're identical when you drive the Jaguar at low speeds in town, using mainly electric power and plugging in as soon as you get home, and the Prius like a normal car. Which is a bit misleading.

Porsche does the same thing with the 918. "And Porsche says it will do 94mpg," Richard Hammond proclaimed on Top Gear. Well...not if you drive it like he did.

That said, I imagine most of these cars will end up as garage queens, driven to the odd car show or nice restaurant. So, maybe their real-world MPG will be closer to these advertising numbers?

oldtamiyaphile 06-03-2014 07:58 PM

I've never seen a car that will return it's official MPG numbers on a race track...
