Linus tried TikTok Computer Hacks

Please note, these are hack tips, not actual hacks, but he found some to be useful, although they didn't necessarily give [correct] directions:
  1. Find an old DVR for $5, check the serial number on the bottom, and see if the hard drive inside, in a best-case scenario, is worth the cost of the purchase. Then buy security screw bits (oops!), and extract the hard drive, which hopefully works.
  2. Go to Ninite.com, select WinDirStat, download, install, run, and free up files you aren't using. They recovered 30 GB.
  3. Go to Prntsc/ and then any 2 letters, any 4 letters, and it will show you randomly-shared screenshots.
  4. Inspect element, go to "Console," write "document.designMode = "on" and press Enter you can edit almost anything on your page by just typing.
  5. Hide a folder in plain sight by changing the icon to something boring.
  6. [Doesn't work and there is no clear way to make it work]
  7. Get people to buy you stuff and then tell people what a great deal you got on it.
  8. Rig VLC to load a video when you boot your computer [and have a friend turn on your RGB lighting. Penny in the first season of "Big Bang Theory" said "Just buy a really cheap universal remote from Radio Shack."]. Go to SpiceWorks.com and follow the directions.
  9. Go into your BIOS and adjust your X.M.P. [D.O.C.P. on AMD] systems and speed up your computer--just hope your computer remains stable.
  10. Hit [Win] + V to enable your clipboard history and then you can paste anything you copied recently.
  11. Hit [Ctrl] + [Win] + [Shift] + B to reset your drivers and hopefully fix temporary problems. Someone remind me of this the next time Lappy forgets my wifi adapter--if only I had the wifi to look up the shortcut! :D

Yes, you seem to be able to edit any part of the webpage as if it were a text editor, but you are on your own with images:

That would be 4. Inspect element, go to "Console," write "document.designMode = "on" and press Enter you can edit almost anything on your page by just typing.

Have you tried the others? [3.] is definitely a hack. For [5.], back in Mac OS9 I had a set of five icons that looked like a book, so you could stack five folder's icons to look like a bookshelf. Click on any one and it would take you to a different result.

It's weird seeing my own [truthful] words in dark mode.

It's no more a hack than typing "https://imgur.com/gallery/" and then 7 random characters, except PRNTSC is more likely to have a result, whatever it may be.

A lot of cameras default to a format of DS[seven digit number] or similar.

I watched up to the commercial. Typical Youtuber presentation style. I prefer a listenable voice (AvE, Pablo Vasquez at Blender Today, the New Earth lady) and they don't come much better than Anastasi In Tech
This New AI Technology is a Game Changer
This episode is about the chip that will let your new phone taste and smell. There is a picture of the shippable product and block diagram at 9:10

edit: Almost forgot the most important part. Where the BrainChip can listen to the audio map of the engine and diagnose it's condition.

My browser completely froze the other day and became unusably slow today. I closed it and reopened and 5 separate videos started playing at once. I was quickly down to Veritasium and I didn't find the tab quickly, so I listened to a few videos while went through my other tabs.

Not a bad voice.

How do I bypass paywalls (sometimes)?

This fine Imgurian commented this here: https://imgur.com/gallery/VB4c1UK

I have been trying to figure out how to do this on and off since July. I delete elements all of the time, but I don't see z-index anywhere, and searching just confused me further.

Thank you very much! :)

It is supposed to hide paywalls in case the webpage is set up to handle people deleting elements.
When you inspect a page you hit the + next to Style. People kept saying that it works, but I only got it to work once.

Z-index is an CSS element of HTML5.

Definition and Usage. The z-index property specifies the stack order of an element.. An element with greater stack order is always in front of an element with a lower stack order. Note: z-index only works on positioned elements (position: absolute, position: relative, position: fixed, or position: sticky) and flex items (elements that are direct children of display:flex elements).
You can try it out here: www.w3schools.com/cssref/tryit.asp?filename=trycss_zindex

That makes sense and I can edit that, but this is the specific page that I keep testing: https://www.wmicentral.com/news/late...2bdde6e01.html

Our local newspaper only allows 3 free articles a month. We buy the physical paper, but I am not taking pictures of it!

When I added z-index to the style line it changes it to "z-index:> == $0."

The hacker mentality thinks in terms of 'attack surface'. If you can't get in through the page, what about the identification process? Based on email address? Mac address? Cookies?
