Living vicariously through you guys
I've been stumbling across, and then getting sucked into posts from this forum for quite some time. Whether I'm researching overland vehicles, motorcycles, sportscars, or just bored... So I figured I should join up rather than lurk forever. Heck, maybe I can even be a productive member haha.
I'm from Georgia (USA), I drive 1997 Mercury Mountaineer AWD 5.0 V8... She's got almost 300k miles on her and I doubt any mods will be of relevance to her at this point:confused:. She's one inefficient and thirsty beast (15mpg hwy). But perhaps I'll give some a go when I get some time. I'm here more for the exchange of information and ideas! Maybe some day I'll be able to get a car or two to play with :D ~C |

And yeah, I know there are... But my truck in general has seen more efficient days. At one point I could get just over 20 on the hwy, now I'm lucky to see 15mpg. She leaks oil from unknown location, throws an evap code that I don't have the money to find and fix the leak, the awd transfer case was rebuilt and ever since then I have seen a reduction in FE, the list goes on and on. But she has served me well, and shes a lot of fun on dirt roads in the mountains, so I can't complain. Shes more utility than anything else at this point, put I'm definitely going to contemplate what I can do with her given the issues at hand and her intended use  |
Welecome.
Ouch, that's close to 20,000 gallons of gas (300k @15 MPG). regards Mech |

I went through my muscle car phase in a 67 Barracuda 383 Formula S coupe, 100 gallons a week (10 MPG) didn't last long. Gas was 32 cents a gallon and I was making almost 14k a year (early 1970's).
I would have to drive my truck 3200 miles a week, the Fiesta 5000 miles a week and the bike 8500 miles a week to go through that much gas anymore. The 65 Honda 50 would have to do about 13,000 a week. regards Mech |
I too have been sucked into this site, enjoying reading everyone's posts. Hoping to get my sunfire back up and running and get some good mpgs again.

OP, you will find this site is accepting of people with all forms of opinions, lifestyles and driving habits. You don't have to be an eco-friendly driver to be accepted here. I really hope you stick around, pitch ideas and, most of all, enjoy yourself. You will however be poked at by us people who get 4x you mileage (such as me, I get 45mpg) :P. Anyway, start a fuel log, it won't do any harm to keep track of your expenses, that's what I mainly use it for. It helps me budget for the next month knowing how much exactly I'm spending on gas.
