Everyone who rides in this interior will have summoned—and will pay for it—through a smart phone.

Local Motors and IBM working together. I didn't see that one coming. With the Watson AI, it will respond to rider's questions, like "Why did you do that?".

I like the interior and cubiform chassis, but I can't seem to link the picture with a bike rack and wheel-chair access. It's supposed to be at https://cocreate.localmotors.com/edd...ni-bus-system/; which appears to be the original proposal from a year ago. Now they are roaming the streets in National Harbor, MD.

Here's the story from 7 hours ago:

Bike rack and wheelchair ramp would likely have to be actuated by linear motors. Top speed about 30 mph?

The city of Trikala, in central Greece, is the first in Europe to host a driverless bus in the city center.

It is part of CityMobil2, an EU-funded pilot project to revolutionise mass transport and wean Europe's cities off oil dependency over the next 30 years. Each in turn, five different sites are hosting the 6-month pilot project.

The idea is not to replace ordinary buses but to offer a mixed transport service, with improved transport in areas of low or dispersed demand.

Why is no one else a fan of Olli, Local Motors and Jay Rogers?

3 months from conception to giving people a ride? I wonder how fast they can scale production.

I think the thing I like best, having ridden a few buses, is the seats and grab rails. Nothing overhead except for headache racks at the front and back. And the seatbacks hang off the rails.

See Testori Interiors Inc. I used to work for them.

I did. What did you do for them?

I did quality assurance for six years. Design work is done in Canada. The NY plant does laminating of metal to plywood and has a big table router. A good bit of final assembly is done in both sites. Fiberglass is done in Italy last I heard. We supplied panels for commuter rail cars.

Does the 'laminating of metal to plywood' expertise transfer over to ecomodding projects?

What's the process? Vacuum bags? Is it more like skinning the plywood or attaching brackets to bulkheads?

Grant-53 07-19-2016 02:33 PM

The process involves using a casein industrial glue to bond sheets of metal to plywood. The glue is rolled on and the panels are pressed under hydraulic pressure for several days while the glue cures. More to the use of ecomodders is the availability of aluminum honeycomb or nomex honeycomb. If composite materials are applied to shapes made from the sheets of honeycomb the vacuum bag is used. Note that Coroplast is now available in honeycomb sheets.
