New to Vehicles & Forum

Just got my learners license 11 months ago , doing my intermediate test this month. Currently Borrowing one of my parents cars (2000 Chevy Metro) and am looking to make it a little more fuel efficient (currently getting 42.5mpg) and hopefully faster for $1500-$2000. Ill just come out and say i know next to nothing about the internal workings of vehicles so am hoping to learn.
