Looking for a little help with OBDuino build.
1 Attachment(s)
I'm reading through the OBDuino thread so I know what I'm doing when I go to build mine but I just want to make sure that I'm understanding everything correctly since this is my 1st arduino build and I don't want to mess it up. Can someone check my parts list for me please?
My car: 2002 Pontiac Sunfire SE Sedan 2.2l Ecotec 4 Speed Auto VPW (J1850) Protocol Parts List : - Arduino (I'll use the SainSmart Arduino Uno) Link --> Amazon.com: SainSmart UNO R3 ATmega328P Development Board + USB Cable Compatible With Arduino UNO R3 Mega 2560 Nano Robot: Computers & Accessories <-- - LCD I'm still deciding on the size - OBD-II Wire - Resistors Will these 2 work? --> 220 ohm 1/2W 5% Carbon Film Resistor pk/5 : Resistors | RadioShack.com <-- --> NTE QW151-10 - 1/4W 510 Ohm Metal Film Flameproof Resistor | RadioShack.com <-- - Transistor (I only need 1 right?) PNP Amplifying Transistors (15-Pack) : PNP Transistors | RadioShack.com - Buttons to switch screens These are normally open 3A 125V SPST Normally Open Pushbutton Momentary Switch : Pushbutton Switches | RadioShack.com I've never tried any arduino projects before but I have programming knowledge and I'd like to give it a try I just want to make sure I really do my research first. Thanks for any help. Picture is of the type OBD-II connector in my car. |
Bump for updated parts list.
I'll check the protocol my car uses tomorrow cause it's raining now EDIT: Protocol is now listed in OP EDIT: I'm dropping some links here so I can find them easier https://code.google.com/p/opengauge/wiki/OBDuino32K https://code.google.com/p/opengauge/wiki/OBDuino Source code https://code.google.com/p/opengauge/...no/obduino.pde |
Well no my biggest problem is figuring out the OBD II cable from the schematics I was looking at there are a few extra wires since my car only has 4 pins and the pictures in the OBDuino project are all not working so it says "the cable should look like this" but then the picture is missing so I'm not sure what this is. Lol
Does anyone have a picture or instructions on how to make the cable? |
Also do I need an ELM?
|
Hi
Thought this device would be redundant by now ,the ËLM sorts out which protocol the vehicle has automatically ,then spits out the appropriate info to the arduino. Resistors are ok & one transistor is right. the cable I can't recall . |
Thanks I'm going a bit of a different route now you can check out my plans here http://ecomodder.com/forum/showthrea...2-a-29179.html
What do you mean by it being redundant though? |
When I say redundant , the blue tooth OBD elm device to the smart phone & the ultragage ,plus other devices , are probably reasons the pages for the OBDuino are no longer maintained.
I started looking at this about 3 years ago ,that is as far as I got. |
I see what you mean now. That's why I'm tiring to build one without the elm I don't want to have to use my phone for that cause I don't want to always have it plugged in or be draining the battery but the elm only uses Bluetooth now. That's why I'm hoping to do be able to read & clear DTCs on the OBDuino build I'm doing it gives a bit of incentive to make one. Of you're interested in it I don't mind your input on the build in the other thread I think I'm about ready to order my parts for the OBDuino 2 ( I guess that's what I'll call it ) and try it out.
