Looking for solid aerodynamic wheels. Post 'em and give opinions...

So I am on a quest to find a solid set of wheels that I don't have to put a pizza pan over. Obviously alloy is lighter than steel. If you see something online post it here for critique and thoughts on Aero.

a few I found:

Cades Jadis in 15". Fairly smooth, but the nubs stir up trouble.

Porsche 7-slots in 16". Quite smooth, but how bout them holes? Also only in 5x130. And 16" in too big.

Forgot about teardrops. I also didn't think about cross pollination from Honda. How bad is having small holes in the wheel?

Sven7 07-08-2012 11:46 PM

What's your bolt pattern? The small holes shouldn't be too bad.

But beware- Teardrops the heaviest wheels that ever came on VW Cabriolets, heavier than even steelies. I think they're like 19lbs per corner however you could score a set for less than 50 bucks.

If you can find them, Le Castellets may work.

You could always look for SSR Mk1's with high offset. The dishy ones look cool but won't do you any favors in the aero arena. They'll probably be expensive too (so will LeCastellets).

Volvo Libra wheels are available either in 15" or 16"
5 x 108 pattern

They are very heavy - so heavy the weight may well kill all benefits in city driving.

Porsche Design 90 wheels are pretty good. Pretty sure VW also used these, or similar. Look a lot like the ones shown in Sven7's and RobbMeeX's (lower pic) posts above. These are among the lightest of Porsche's wheels

Sven7 07-09-2012 11:40 AM

Oh yeah, D90's. They have a bit of a lip but are probably more common than LeCastellets

Those Volvo wheels are just what I'm looking for style-wise for my upcoming project. Any idea on the weight?

RobbMeeX 07-09-2012 06:50 PM

D90's are also only 5x130. Are the libra's available in US? How bad are the holes in these things? Anybody venture a guess?
I am particularly looking for 5x100, though in honesty, I may never get rims. I used to care more, but after someone slammed on the brakes in front of me totalling my car, I care less.
