Here are the details for Economy Run IV:

What: Fuel mileage contest through Montgomery, Schoharie, and Schenectady counties of NY. The route will be on very scenic and less travelled roads, and will run approximately 108 miles in distance. Your “economic” driving ability will be tested. Cars will be filled with fuel by an AMEC official and be sent off at one minute intervals. There will be a time limit to complete the run. Any street legal vehicle is allowed to participate, [including motorcycles].

Where: The start and finish will be at the Fairway Oil gas station on Route 5 in Fonda, NY. The physical address is 40 E Main St, Fonda, NY 12068. Take NY Thruway Exit 28.Take NY Thruway Exit 28. After the toll booth, turn left onto Riverside Drive. Then turn right onto South Bridge Street and go over the bridge. On the other side of the bridge is a traffic light. You can see Fairway Oil and Gas on your left. Turn left onto Route 5 and enter the station.

When: Sunday, November 1, 2009. Arrival time will be 8:00-8:30am, first car off at 9:00am. They have gas and diesel and have a large enough parking lot that we won’t be in the way.

Cost: $10 per vehicle to cover the awards.

Awards include:

1. Best overall mpg for gas cars [1st, 2nd, and 3rd places]

2. Best overall mpg for diesel and hybrid cars [1st, 2nd, and 3rd places]

3. Best Historic car ['79 and earlier - 1st, 2nd, and 3rd places].

4. Best overall mpg for Street Legal Class ice race cars.

Awards and Lunch: This event will conclude about 1:00 pm, and our plan is to proceed up to nearby Checkers Out Go-Kart track for lunch, awards, and optional indoor go-kart races if you so desire. Checkers Out Speedway is an indoor go kart track open year round, and is located about ¾ of a mile south of Johnstown, NY, on NYS Route 30A. Physical address: 2299 State Hwy 30A Johnstown, NY 12905. Sounds great Ben. :)

I also wanted to let everyone know about some new details for this event:

1. Filling: We will be starting and finishing at the same station this time. We want our results to be as accurate as possible. So we will be making sure that all cars use the same pump for both fills, and must be facing the same direction while doing so.

2. Mileage verified: This will be an all new course and it is possible that someone could short cut the route, so odometers will be checked before and after, to verify mileage. If your odometer doesn't work or is grossly inaccurate, please contact me before the event.

3. Weather: Previous events have always been "rain or shine." Let's face it, no one will want to be doing this during an all day soaker in November. I will be watching the forecast closely and will make a decision 3 full days before the event. I don't mind a scattered shower, but if it is predicted to be a steady rain all day, I'll let you all know so the few of you that have a motel room booked can cancel without penalty. Rain has never stopped one of our events yet, and I don't expect to have to cancel, but you never know.

How are issues pertaining to digital gauges going to be handled?

Also, since my car was originally non-hybrid, but will be hybrid, which class will I be in?

Man I wish I lived on the other side. I would so love to do this:thumbup:

I can't wait to have a look at Ben's IRX, Jonathan's TDI swap and Robert's Insight (never seen one up close and personal). The playing field in the hybrid/diesel class sure has gone up since last time with 2 Insight drivetrains entering the competition.

I just hope there will still be summer diesel at the station. Winter blend would give a 10-15% penalty.

BYOD? Hehe ;)

I'll be there. Same deal as last time: Entering my 93 XFi if I manage to get it on the road by then, but probably going to be 98 Civic EX. Awesome events Mike, keep it up.

Ben...paying my entry fee again? :p

We will be using the digital gauges as a backup in the event the fill has "permanent fatal errors" like yours did last time. :p I'd still like to know why your car would not fill up. Do you have a service manual with the picture of the filler neck and the evap system hose[s] that go to it? Can you post it?

I haven't read your thread all the way through yet, but if you have the hybrid system working at our event, then yes you'd be in the Diesel/Hybrid class with top dog Mr. Martin showing the way. :D

I'll try to see what the service manual has to say about it tonight, but I'll have to dig the manual out from under it's pile of junk.

Looking forward to hopefully competing in the new category!
