Massive mpg jump.

So as you guys know I had an overheating problem which I had fixed, but that wasn't the end of the repairs.

Fixed rear motor mount, and replaced worn out 'Doughnut' that was causing exhaust leak.
Car wouldn't move under own power, #2 cat was clogged.
Hollowed out #2 cat, replaced primary LAF sensor.
#2 o2 sensor throwing #1 cat below efficiency threshold CEL.
Used spark plug non fouler to pull o2 sensor out of the high flowing exhaust.
No more CEL.
Replaced rotors and brakes.

Previously, on the way home from the gas station, doing 45mph and hitting no red lights I got 51.2mpg. Today, doing 55-60mph, and hitting 2 red lights I got 66.4mpg! The car also has a ton more power and assist is almost impossible to run down.

So yea, for those one or two members that might have been wondering, that's the status update.

Your insight's 90 day MPG is almost as bad as my prizm and I haven't even started the car since installing the airdam. I find this amusing.

Yea this insight had massive problems. Mainly the primary o2 sensor giving the car false information, causing it to use way to much fuel. On top of that, the #2 Cat was clogged, and the exhaust leak wasn't allowing enough exhaust to escape, so there was way to much back pressure. I used to fight the car to keep the SoC from getting completely drained, and I thought the IMA battery was just going bad. Turns out the clogged cat was causing the car to work way, way to hard to move, therefore using more assist. Since I fixed the exhaust, I rarely ever drop below 18/20 SoC bars.

Just got 62.3mpg going to work. Best prior trip here was 55 with hitting no stop lights, I hit every single one. Love this mpg increase! I might actually get a 50mpg round trip for once!

Check if the insight had the BMS recall done. AFAIK from the factory your year at least would wear out the battery in places like california due to overcharge and float chargeing creating too much heat.

Good job chasing it all down, Balto!

How did you discover all of these?

Clogged cat can be guessed from the fact that once the exhaust leak was patched, the car's engine had too much backpressure to be a prime mover. Oxygen sensor can be monitored, on my car at least I measure oxygen sensor usefulness by how many times it crosses stoichiometric per 10 seconds.

Can I tell this by watching the Ultragauge reading?
