LOL Data recording goes back to OBD1 are they planning to retrofit cars prior to 1980 with systems and upgrade the millions out there with brake and other system monitors they never came with?

If you read the link you would see that it's every new car sold after September 1st 2014 and that some cars already have it in place...

Aware of the OBD monitoring, GMs attempt to upload customer data via Onstar, ect.
BS = another regulation and higher costs.

This has been coming for a long time. I read some of the comments after the article and many were quite adamant about black boxes somehow being a violation of their rights. Hmmmm, I have a commercial drivers license and am required by federal law to submit to random drug tests and medical certification as a condition of holding my CDL. The fourth amendment gives us the right against unreasonable search and seizure without probable cause. This "violation" of rights has been upheld in the high courts because the justices concluded that driving is a privilege - not a right, and a random drug testing and medical certification is a condition of enjoying privilege.

Not saying I'm for or against, just saying.

I agree, if you don't like it then use one of the many other options you have to driving a car.
Does anyone know the specs that are going to have to be fallowed for the data logging? it sounded like 10 seconds before a crash is the current standard and that having the info uploaded is a GM only deal.
So while the old way to keep your driving habits to your self was just not to be seen driving in public, this new way also requires that you don't crash your vehicle.

From the little I have read the new mandate will standardize the "black box". As it is now with many vehicles only the manufacturer can pull up the information. If the gooberment gets their way anyone (mainly police) can pull up your "black box" information. If that is the case I only hope that the black box information is only able to be acquired with due process... i.e. a warrant.
