Seems a bit much.

Friends have sent in pictures of local roads several feet deep in snow... I guess it was a bad winter.

(worst we got here this year was tiny hail... once... :D )

In northern japan they would let a good 3 or 4 inches of hard packed snow and ice build up in residential and secondary streets through the winter.
Didn't seem to bother them much.

I wish they would use something else than rust inducing salt.

The winters up here get old quick.

I vividly remember congress members saying that "snowy winters would soon be a thing of the past" in fall/winter of 2010 I believe it was.
I really wanted the globull warming alarmist to be right for once with that one.

Yeah, and hereabouts we had maybe 15-20% of an average year's snowpack in the mountains, nothing that stuck more than a day or so at my 4800 ft elevation. Same is true for a lot of the world: it's just that the US East Coast gets the benefit of a weather pattern that sends Arctic air over them.

And why people complain about having a decent winter for a change is something I'll never understand. If you don't like winter, move to Florida, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, or the southern part of Texas, then you can have fun b**ching about humidity, mosquitos, and alligators :-)

In truth, man-made global warming is increasing the energy in the atmosphere. Therefore, atmospheric warm fronts have greater energy to force into the North Pole region, thrusting cold Arctic fronts from the unpopulated north to populated southern Canada & deep into the U.S. At times, Arctic cold fronts are thrust to Mexico & Central America & at other times, to southern China & India, to Iran, Iraq, & Northern Africa.

It bothers me that the "scientific" theories about why global warming might affect the climate in counter-intuitive ways get a lot of attention (global warming causes colder winters, etc), but I have yet to see an article discussing theories that predict some benefits of having a higher global temperature. Surely climate change doesn't mean that all of the changes are bad for humanity.

The rolling coal thread gave you the wrong idea, with your long term solutions. That may help our children and grandchildren but when dealing with ice and snow NOW you need to think differently.
