I think this is a pretty isolated incident, but Darin thinks that this post could spawn all sorts of images of supercars doing unsupercar type stuff. You guys got any images/stories?

Oh, if we are going for the most practical supercar for real then it depends what what you mean by supercar. Assuming something with equivalent performance to the supercar of the time then I have to nominate the Lynx Eventer

The XJS was so much better than the E-type IMHO especially with a manual gearbox and weslake heads on the HE versions - for a start it had decent suspension and brakes which the e-type lacked and it was a 70s cool car which is of course super cool. ;)

As for the supercar I would drive every day, the Lamborghini Jarama is my number 1. Take the engine from a Countach and mount it in something more practical.

If you are in anyway interested in cars, even as an Ecomodder then you at some point want to be this guy.

EDIT - before anyone brings out stats about how a Vette would be faster - come on, you would still drive the Jarama and listen to the V12 sing as you lost the drag race battle but of course won the cool car war ;)

You have won me over!

I like Corvette's up through about '72. I appreciate the substantial suspension updates that have refining and refining since about '84 or so, but I see too many cruiser type ones owned by non-car people who just want to be seen in one, that its rather sickening!

In recent yrs., the rear looking like a fat woman's butt doesn't do a lot for me.

Thankfully recently, they finally have aero headlights, instead of popups, but they still aren't pretty!

If you know what I mean,... it's a soul thing; like a perfect early XKE Jag. Some cars have it; and some just don't!


I think with a little careful planning, most of the '70's pretty cars that have popups, could be skillfully modded to aero lights under clear plexy or the like!

The older American laws regarding enclosed ( plastic coverings) headlights being illegal sure ruined the looks of some nice cars.

A car as new as the late 60's Opel GT should never have been permitted to be seen in public with the ghastly frog eyes. The car otherwise, was quite nice!

I have to extend an appreciation for your point-of-view here. The UK has had so many more range choices, engine options, and unique vehicles to which we never had access in the US. That Lynx Eventer looks amazing, even for today's standards. We often get the basic version of the original, if we're lucky. Whenever I'm there, I pickup a "WhatCar?" Magazine, model-year overview of all vehicles available there, and I'm consumed for hours...

I try and do the same in the US, Mrs A knows to allow a certain amount of luggage weight for the reading material I end up bringing home with me. Last time it was New York and sadly the magazine places there seemed very light on car nerd material compared with SFO and MSP.
