Would you buy a USB-C laptop charger for $8.50?

I forgot my laptop charger and a universal one at Best Buy was $60. A 60W USB-C charger also started at $60, but I found this one at Amazon for $8.50, and it is rated 4.4 stars! It is rated for 65w. My laptop charger is only 45w. Will this charge faster or just explode? 😃 Universal Chromebook Charger USB C for 65W

That depends on where you forgot your charger and how long you will be without it. If your charger has been lost forever then buying a new one makes sense.

I would look at something much smaller. My work IT bought me one of these with my new iPhone and it also charges my work laptop and personal chromebook while they are in use. Chromebooks don't draw much power.

Forty-six dollars for a 60w charger without a cable.

I use my laptop next to my desktop, often connected to my television and peripherals, and I need to crawl under the computer table to unplug the charger if I remember.

Eight and a half dollars to forgo that annoyance?!

Go to Goodwill and spend ~$3 on a 4-outlet power strip.

I linked (and have) the 20W version for $24. (It is usually $15) The 30W version is currently $24 as well. As I mentioned above - it will charge my chromebook or work laptop while I'm using the device. More is not always better.

It doesn't come with a cable as pretty much every phone or tablet sold comes with a USB-C cable so many households have a dozen or so sitting around. Personally I would rather carry around a 1 inch square cube than a giant charging brick and I would pay the extra $7. Your preferences may be different.

As Freebeard mentioned - if you are crawling under your desk to plug and unplug things a basic powerstrip will solve that problem.

The size difference:

I still remember in 1985 or so two library tables with 512K Macs down both sides and daisy-chained power strips down the middle.

You just described my high school computer lab circa 1996. We weren't fancy enough to have 512K Macs though - we were still running the Apple IIe.

My charger is plugged into a surge protector.

In 1991 my sixth-grade class had several daisy-chained PCjrs.

Not to humblebrag or anything, but I have a table lamp that has two 3.5A outlets on the base. It has two power cords.

One outlet has a switchable 3" flourescent light and the is for storing 3-way plugs and adaptors in a little tree.

My charger arrived. My phone didn't acknowledge it, but my laptop was at 44% when I plugged it in at 1715, and it is charging.
