Mud Flaps

I am pretty sure I am going to remove my flaps. Soon look at how much they scoop inward. I have not even finished my first tank infact I have only drove 20miles so far. Obviously still at full. I dont really care how much each item or project I do gives me as long as I get good numbers. I am currently still doing city driving which I believe the flaps want come in to play until I start my highway driving. I don't care if I only get 5 miles improvement on the whole tank. I'll post pictures if I do soon... Before and afters. Input or just comments about mud flaps would be great.
Thanks all and keep on rockin those high numbers.

Hurry! Get rid of them.

I had a similar set on my Integra -- big scoops. I found when I took off the rear flaps, it left a big hole from the wheel-well back to the bumper (which looked worse, aerodyamically). On the non-muffler side, I placed a pan to direct the air under the bumper. The muffler side was a bit more challenging -- a combination of bending the heat shield and other parts helped with the flow.

Every little bit helps!

Welcome, BTW. Is Triad near Raleigh/Durham (my employer is HQ'd in "RTP").

That scoop is tiny

I would just leave them, or trim off the scoop part.
When I took mine off (the rear wheel), they left a big gap,
so I cut them down and put them back on. The front ones I ditched completely.

Yeah I am not to far from there. That area is called Research Triagle Park RTP opps. Yeah what you said. My brother use to live like a minute from that in a small town. What is the company? The Triad area is made up of Winston-Salem, High Point, Greensboro and all the little citys in the middle. Winston-Salem is my town. If that does not ring a bell then sir you never smoked before. RJ Reynolds Produces it's cigs here. This town would not be here if it was not for that cancer causing family. ;) No but really that family has done a lot for this city. They make products such as Camels, Winston, Salems, Vintage, and a few more that I am not sure of right now.

My Civic has the same gap. Yea good thinking with the triming. I will have to make something to fix that gap. This may sound dumb but what about making a cut in the rear bumper to help funnel the air out. Like speed holes, or devise some kind of foam filled cover piece. Not sure if anyone has tried either.

Most of the 3rd-Party Pharma companies are based there. I work for Quintiles -- great company and job -- I really enjoy it.

I too have a background in EMT/Fire (volunteer, paid service, and in-house Trauma Center). I moved into medical research about 10 years ago and it's what I've done since. I've moonlighted in CPR instruction now and then too.

There's still a bit of daylight...

I'll see if I can get some pics (if not, I'll try for tomorrow)...

I don't know if it's dumb or not, but I've looked into the idea of cutting some slots in the rear bumper..
Once I checked it out, I found that only the bottom segment would be suitable for cutting open (or clean off). Since the upper half has the steel bumper and foam behind it.Plus, if I did cut it, there are wires and stuff that would have to be re-arranged.

I think boxing in that void area with coroplas or sheet metal wouldn't require a lot of work and might be the best way to do it.

Yeah that would proably work. Where can you get coroplast at? I have never had a use for it before.
