My 2008 Aveo Sedan...

Well, if you look at the number for this small car, it's not overly impressive. But the price was so that's why I bought it.

Now, here are the EPA ratings for the Aveo...

EPA city 24 mpg(US)
EPA highway 34 mpg(US)
EPA combined aprox 29 mpg(US)

I heard people complain that this little car didn't get good milage.

Well, I proved it wrong. I started to turn off my ignition at long red lights. I coast to lights and stops, I coast down hills, gradual accelaration and RARELY pass 100km/h on the hwy. (I need a cruise cont because the car wants to go 110!)

I was able to pull off the numbers below doing combined hwy/city. I'm really happy about those numbers! Could be better but it's a start and still in the break in period!

This is very cool. I'm heartened to see that its possible to get good mileage with an Aveo. There is a guy Wolfman over at GMinsidenews.com who's done the same thing.

The Aveo may be at the bottom of the current food chain here in the states, but its still a decent car. It offers very good interior packaging and has consistently scored the highest or near the highest in Edmund's lowest TOTAL COST TO OWN.

People who scorn the Aveo are saying more about themselves than the car.

Ahh i think its funny that hes got a accent getting better MPG's than the aveo.. I had a accent, smae generation as his, was a great little car and was.. think they still are .. the lowest cost car in the USA.. maybee the aveo took that spot, i got mine new for $9200. sold it to a buddy and hes getting 42mpg with out hypermiling it.. but doing lots of 55mph highway driving. The EPA rating on accents are way off in my opinion i had 205/50 15" tire on it and it did 36mpg average with out trying to get MPG's..

As for the aveo, they seem to be decent cars however I think they could get more mPG from them than they do get. Even with your tactics of saving fuel the EPA on chevies cobalt XFE is right up there and i bet a XFE could break 42 with hypermiling tricks.

Congrats on your success with the Aveo, Bigs.

My beef with the Aveo is that it's the least efficient sub-compact available - by the numbers. I'll automatically razz whichever car/manufacturer takes that "honour" in that segment.

Until very recently, GM just didn't give a rat's heinie about the efficiency of the machine. They've changed their tune though, and now claim the next generation Aveo will have "class leading" fuel economy.

I'm glad to see fuel prices & buying patterns have lit a fire under them.

Thanks for the replies guys! Well, the reason I got the Aveo is the price! I got a discount through my company and it was cheaper than anyone around! Especially the 0% finance for 72 months!

I also calculated the difference in cost of fuel VS the price of the car and the Aveo can in quite good! Now that I Hypermile it's even better than I thought! Mind you I'm still at break in (4000KM's). It should slightly improve as I get more milage!

The Accent is a great little car! I have nothing bad to say about that car! It's tough and took a lot of abuse! That's the wife's car and she's also Hypermiling! She loves it especially when she goes at the pumps and sees a huge diff!

Metro, you are dead on with Chev (GM). They do suck on EPA ratings... But I'm sure someone will start waking up and join the crowd on fuel economy!

My company has a discount thats quite good on Chrysler products but i refuse to get a 32mpg box on wheels.. Chrysler sucks for MPG's.. and no a smart car isn't included on our available vehicles.. sadly..

I can see with a corperate discount how you got a decent deal our discounts are quite good..

I had heard the same thing about the Aveo and MPG, but needed a car when my work car died and the Aveo was such a good deal. I was going to buy used and went with the Aveo instead and it has turned out very well. I'm glad that I also found ecomodder right after I bought the car. I've been hitting 48-49 mpg a week for about 6 weeks. I've seemed to have hit a wall, but am quite happy with the results and I drive 53 miles a day work. Without the Aveo It would hurt more at the pump. I've come to really like the car and the scangauge which tells me how to drive it. If they do came out with a more FE Aveo, I'll probably buy it. I had looked at the Yaris, but don't know that I would have done better and I know I would have paid about $4000 more minimum.

Good to hear that people can actually get good mileage out of an Aveo. A fellow from the Celeb club has 2 of them and says he is lucky to get 30 mpg. The EPA ratings just sicken me for such a small car.

Bigs 07-03-2008 01:11 PM

ebach,

Yes it's a corp discount. I also have it with Chrysler but the service was so poor that I left. Bunch of.. never mind! ;) Like you said, too bad Smart isn't in there.

Home, you are pulling amazing number with your Aveo! Awsome stuff!

homeworkhome53 07-03-2008 01:49 PM

I'm going to pop 50 yet. I just let the scangauge tell me what to do and I am patient. I have the luxury of time and quiet roads.
