My BMW

Hi!

I'm new here (No kidding!).

I've been driving this E46 325 since January, and my initial concern was that the required premium fuel and rising gas prices would drive me absolutely crazy.

So I made a decision to do what I can to avoid it.

My best (that i've seen on my in dash monitor) is 6.4L/100km. That was sustained, 90-100km/h driving on the 401.

This week I'm hoping to best that and get myself to Ocean City, Maryland. On a single tank (63L) of fuel.

I'll let you know how I do!

Man, a single tank all the way to ocean city? Good luck!

1100 kms

I've seen prospects of over 900km/tank when achieving that 6.4l/100km and that was 100km into the trip.

Additionally, when at 6.4L/100km the displayed fuel economy would continue to drop if I kept going. I don't think I can get much better than 6L/100km with constant speed conditions.

So I will try a bit of pulse and glide, keeping the engine idling in the glide phase.

I'll be driving overnight, so traffic shouldn't be an issue.

I'll report back on Friday!

Welcome to the forum, Dr. L. Good luck on your trip. Looking forward to the results.

Where in Ontario are you?

dr. locktopus 09-25-2008 09:25 AM

Kitchener!

An hour west of Toronto!

I'll have to average 42 mpg or 5.6L/100km

*fingers crossed*

Sorry I don't see that happening. But good luck on almost making it there on one tank. :D

Updates!

Success! Kinda.

I got too lazy to do it for the whole 1100km.

Between Kitchener and Hamilton I got 5.5L/100km
Kitchener and the Border i got 5.8L/100km

and average for the whole trip: 6.6L/100km (~950km/tank)

not too bad. I'm sure it is acheivable, but the car will need some modifications to get there. I'd like to concentrate on modes that will improve fuel economy w/ minimal impact on the factory looks. Make it a different kind of "sleeper."

More updates later!
