my first metro
hey everyone. Just bought an 01 chevy metro lsi 4door auto yesterday. I would consider myself a novice in hypermiler status. I filled all tires to 40 psi and filled the tank. I was wondering if anybody can give me their thoughts on my purchase and what kind of mileage i can expect. thanks.

I'm still hunting for one myself.
What was the last vehicle you have driven and how do you like it so far compared to it? |
Depending on how fast you drive, 35mpg to 45mpg.
|
I run mine with only the necessary seats, and a headset stereo to cut the noise. With the automatic, it really helps to keep the speed down, but I've had great service from mine.
|
Keep the speeds below 60 MPG and it will return good numbers. The automatic in that Metro is only a 3 speed with no overdrive.

Welcome to the forum light-foot.
I think you've got the newest Metro I've heard of. I believe I read somewhere that not many 2001's were sold (last year of production), and most of those probably went (initially) into rental fleets! That stone age 3-speed, non-locking automatic means you've got your work cut out for you! |
filled up last sunday. so far 98 miles and almost to quarter tank. i drive 45 mph with the tires at 40 psi and coast in neutral to every stop way in advance. I dont have power steering either. hoping that helps out too. so far its looking real promising.

Nice work. Those are decent city numbers.
Even with the 3-speed slushy you should have no trouble beating your Corolla around town (assuming it was automatic also). At speeds over about 45 mph, my money would be on the Toyota though (more gears & locking torque converter). |
