My solar PV thread

This starts about a year ago when I ordered a truck load of big cheap utility grade poly panels for $1,850 shipped to my door.
I was determined to build my own grid tie system. Turns out there are lots of layers of prohibition to ensure this doesn't happen legally.
So I sold all my panels for $2,500 today.
I would say my first attempt at building a solar system worked spectacularly well, since the only requirement was just for it to pay for its self.
So I'm going to curb by enthusiasm and just install my own backup system since I have the perfect battery for a little backup system.
So sold all my panels and I think I'm going to order another pallet of panels, keep a few and sell off the rest.

The solar company I'm using is green solar out of California.
They prescribe 32, 300w LG panels with enphase micro inverters. I don't really care for these enphase micro inverters. I would be good with three 3kw string inverters.
Micros are just expensive and they only do one thing really well.
Enphase is coming out with their own power wall knockoff. I think they just make a separate battery backup that runs independent of the micro inverters and panels.
I already have that so probably won't do it. It's so new it's not launching till may, I don't even know what it's called.
Total cost with the credit is right about $30,000 with a 12 year preapproved 2.89% interest loan.
Payments will be about $200 for the first 18 months, then the loan is renumerated after the eagle poops and you can keep the federal credit boosted tax return and the loan payments go to $250. I think I will save my trump economy stimulus checks, build a war chest and dump it all on the loan to get the payment down to around $150.

One of my thoughts was to contract for a very small grid-tied solar system to cut through all the paperwork and grandfather me into net-metering, then add to the system over time. As I understand it, micros would make that relatively easy.

Micros are great for small systems with shading.

I think it runs an additional $17,000 for the power wall knock off.

power wall

Generac has been running ads for their new 'power wall-esque' PV/battery/grid-tie home system. No mention of cost, only glowing testimonials for all the peak-load savings one could expect.

I'm flat rate. Right about 8 cents a kwh day or night.

Got it switched on. Waited on the inspector for a week.
9.45kw of Samsung panels on enphase I think these are their 7th generation serries micros.

Nice!

I made 39 kWh today on my 6.4kW system.

Dad made 60 kWh on his 8.88 kW ground mount.

Peaking at 7.3kw between 11 and 430 and made 69kwh on a cloudless day.

redpoint5 06-12-2020 10:42 PM

You made more in an hour than I made all day. 7.26 kWh total today.

This is why I should be paying for solar and installing it in Phoenix.
