Need an extremely bright led that fits standard a19 incandescent fixtures

My mom has a lot of antique glass ceiling fixtures that only accept a single traditional lightbulb.(a19)

In the case of her hallway it’s quite long and skinny with a single light in the middle.

Historically my father had a 150watt halogen that happened to just fit inside the glass meaning you could see inside the closet at the end of the hallway without being completely blinded.

When it burned out he took the cover off and had a big donut fluorescent which sort of worked.

I have tried a variety of LEDs and even with the dome removed on the bulb they e don’t fit inside the fixture, with it off you are blinded.

Bulbs small enough to fit are extremely dim

At the moment I am using an extremely large “spot/flood) incandescent they used for craft shows (~200watt)
Despite being bright it doesn’t blind you walking in, it has a slight clear band that allows the ceiling to light, perfect for lighting the entire length of the hall.
But it is extremely inefficient and hot which is fine in the winter but I would like to find bulbs that are brighter than 100 watts that preferably fit the light fixture so they don’t blind you on entry to the hall

I don’t know of any corn cob or 150watt+ LEDs that are small enough to work

I also don’t know if any LEDs replicate the gigantic cone shaped 200 watt bulbs that were hybrid flood/spot that have even enough light to not blind you unshielded

Lots of stuff on the market but most doesn’t work very well.

Also my moms stove exhaust hood seems to only work with standard incandescent, I am down to my last 100 watt incandescent bulb and have one 43 watt halogen left, I have a 60 watt candelabra in there because I couldn’t find her stash of bulbs and it’s too dim.

Tried LEDs 60watts up to 300 watts and they all only light about 1/4 of her stove and the rest is dim due to the sideways mount of the bulb.

LEDs seem to blind more than evenly distribute the light.

I’m considering trying to find a small corncob bulb that is 100 watt eq to try in her sideways mounted lights but all of them seem to either be too large or too dim.

Ah well looking for the most compact models people have encountered and for ideas.

Thanks

LEDs blind because the P/N junction that actually produces the light is so tiny. The plastic lens surrounding the LED tends to be focused narrowly.

Would be good to see a photo of what you're working with.

First idea that came to mind (which is probably a bad one) was to retrofit LED strip lighting along the ceiling of the hallway. Either 1 strip down the middle which might not be asthetically pleasing or bright enough, or run the perimeter which might look better and provide better light.

Second idea was those fan LEDs that can be aimed. They are harsh to look at, so you'd want to aim them as perpendicular as possible.

It was a huge improvement in my garage, but then again I have tall ceilings so I'm never looking directly at them.

Third idea is to just get 4ft tube style LED lights and string them the length of the hallway. Also not aesthetically pleasing, but maybe some are made to look artful instead of utilitarian.

That's an awesome lighting solution. I was just looking at an aisle-full of light bulbs at Wilco and didn't see anything like that.

I think it's a good idea. If she has antique fixtures there may be a cove molding.

Cove molding would make it a no-brainer. Indirect lighting is very pleasant.

I always threaten to install it everywhere in the house, but my wife insists it makes the place look like a bar. My response is "awesome".

Go find a lighting company that deals with the public. We have someone in reno called have bulbs will travel, but last I was there, wallyworld still has filament bulbs for sale as does the local to me true value & Ace. Haven't had a need to go online but chineseium filament bulbs are still made/sold worldwide.
Home despot and lowest have gone stupid.

You saying Lowes and HD don't carry standard incandescent bulbs anymore?

I've got 1 motion switch that doesn't play nicely with LED bulbs, so 1 of the bulbs is incandescent to get it working properly. This is in the washroom, so the few minutes a day it's on doesn't amount to much. It's on a 1 minute timer because we basically only need light for the amount of time it takes to walk in from the garage and through the washroom.

Yup last I was in my local HD & lowes, couldn't buy any except dining fixture lamps and old fashioned bathroom heat bulbs. With all the stocking issues, can't tell if it's OOS or whatever.

I found about a dozen incandescent bulbs in lower wattages in a closet marked
LAST CHANCE
DISCONTINUED
so my father must have bought a bunch before he passed away.

So her stove hood light is set for a long time.

Even back in 2019 the only bulbs I was finding were halogen, fluorescent, or LED

Now Menards only has LEDs and a limited selection of legacy fluorescent and a lone small wattage halogen on clearance.

A halogen bulb in the a19 size that puts out an equivalent of more than 100 watts would work fine but can’t find any

I did find a strange very small 150 watt equivalent corncob LED with no base but I have no clue how I could adapt it to a normal light socket.

It looks to mount like a big fuse into some sort of leads, no idea what type of lighting device this is

Does anyone sell this in a store?

It looks like I could fish it in and install with the light cover

E27 part is easy the R7 part looks commercial task lighting
