Need your feedback: How did you find EcoModder?

Trying to figure out how people are finding the site so we can make it easier for other users to find us and get excited about ecomodding.

Please vote and drop a note with how you got here, what your first impressions were, and what you think we could be doing to attract new users and get them to stick around!

Thanks,
Benjamin

Darin actually directed me here indirectly (ironic huh?) I emailed him at his website (that I had found) he made for Geo metro's/suzuki clones and he emailed me back with a thread about what I had emailed him. I started checking out the forum, and joined! Woo! Large Displacement motor thread? :D

metroschultz 05-12-2008 11:47 PM

link to link

First let me say that I'm pretty cheap by nature,
so in order to spend less on gas---
I was a member at GS,
I followed a link to MetroMPG,
Since I own one dont'cha know,
Which led me here.
I lurked and lurked and finally joined.
So to bring in more members I would recomend more links from other sites.
Maybe hit up one of the biggies and get a mutual link from them, add some $$$$ signs so people know we are into saving money on fuel.
Or maybe a link from some of the money sites (those guy are always looking for ways to keep their $$'s).
Just my 33.3 cents
Thanks for all your hard work guys,
Schultz.

I was searching some other info related to FE and one of the google links led me to a thread that had one of the ecomodder banners in the signature, the rest as they say is history.

Perhaps making a decal available similar to the one I have in my signature, but with a dry erase surface so we can constantly update the numbers and encourage questions about them?

T-shirts?

SVOboy 05-12-2008 11:58 PM

We do have stickers available, hadn't thought about shirts/dry-erasable stuff yet though.

Glad to here people are using the signature tag!

I was continuously being flamed at Ford Truck Enthusiast. And i think Big Dave felt sorry for me and steered me here.

SVOboy told me... and I think MetroMPG egged me on.

Gone4 05-13-2008 01:43 AM

A website (hack-a-day I think) had a post about the aerocivic back in December, that lead me here.

Daox 05-13-2008 08:13 AM

MetroMPG.com led me here.

i_am_socket 05-13-2008 09:58 AM

I was googling ways to save gas and such and found the link to the aerocivic, which linked to a couple places, and eventually here.

PaleMelanesian 05-13-2008 10:21 AM

C-MPG -> GS -> MetroMPG -> here.

jeremy128 05-13-2008 10:42 AM

I found this site via a digg.com link to the 104+ MPG tips page.

TomO 05-13-2008 11:28 AM

I was involved with some insider trading and was grandfathered in via mutualosity.

And hopefully my sticker on the car will bring some more people in, although, I don't think the majority of the masses are ready to be enlightened. ;)

Come on $10/gal gas!

RH77 05-13-2008 09:36 PM

I just kinda stumbled on over here...

:p

ankit 05-13-2008 09:42 PM

Can I take my vote back I remember how I found the site now.

On an Altima forum I visit, someone saw AndrewJ's fly whip, took pictures of it, and posted a thread in thinking he was a ricer. Well, somehow AndrewJ found the thread, joined the forum and straightened out the reasoning for his mods. Then he PM'ed me because I seemed like I was into saving fuel and here I am.

Johnny Mullet 05-13-2008 10:14 PM

I got a Metro.
I was astonished at the fuel mileage.
I wanted even better fuel mileage.
I searched Google.
I found MetroMPG.com
I joined in on the fun.

Greenblazer 06-03-2008 08:40 AM

Chris D's Fuel Mileage Log on a Tacoma forum is what led me here. Thanks Chris!

digitaldissent 06-03-2008 05:02 PM

getnpsi 06-03-2008 06:29 PM

A guy in NY on the fordaspire/fordfestiva forum had the statistics in his sig.

johnpr 06-04-2008 12:00 AM

i hate google, for my own reasons...

so in a non fuel related search on YAHOOoooOOO (yeah think of the yodelling sound when you read that) i found this site.. in fact i think it might have had something to do with trucks and the search directed me to the "aftermarket aero bed cap" or maybe it was a search about aero.... hmm dont remember to much

tasdrouille 06-04-2008 07:16 AM

I got my first gas car, realized I needed to do something about its FE, I found GS, lurked there, found metrompg, and then joined here.

Darn right I egged you on. Only so much time in a day to read interesting threads at forums, and I didn't want to miss out on your CitiCar adventure!

LostCause 06-07-2008 05:52 AM

Googled CRX's --> crxmpg.com --> Gassavers.org --> MetroMPG.com --> Gassavers.org (hey, why did MetroMPG delete all his posts?) --> Ecomodder.com (ohhh)...

:D

PopularMechanics.com led me to this growing obsession of mine.

Yes, I listened to a podcast on the Popular Mechanics web site, and this site was mentioned.

Internet = Google

The internet doesn't exist without Google these days. I'm a Marine aircraft maintainer, and we all use Google to fix airplanes.

SVOboy 06-16-2008 02:34 AM

But they say wikipedia has killed google, :p

Blue07CivicEX 06-16-2008 07:15 AM

I was googling better gas mileage modifications and found the 100+ tips then came here and looked around then joined.

Bigs 06-16-2008 07:29 AM

ebacherville 06-16-2008 09:31 AM

Tango Charlie 06-23-2008 01:26 PM

Can't recall exactly how I got here, but glad I did!
Seems like the term 'ecomodder' caught my attention somewhere...

groar 06-23-2008 03:13 PM

I read an article, I don't remember where, but it was about hypermiling/eco-driving. I realized I was spending twice more in diesel than one year ago. I searched about hypermiling/eco-driving and I found several sites and articles on wikipedia.
During several months I read blogs as ecogeek, carectomy... (the current obsession was solar panels and reducing co2/uranium use) then I read an article about fuel efficiency and remembered what I found several months sooner and found back ecomodder, gassaver and cleanmpg. After one month of attempts to apply the different found tips, I wanted to subscribe on a forum to register our two cars and so execute one of the tips : track the fuel consumption. As I was reading more ecomodder than the other forums, I chose ecomodder.

Once again, thanks to all for all that good knowledge :-)

Regards,

Denis.

Linked from hackaday blog about the OpenGauge project.

azraelswrd 06-23-2008 03:58 PM

After seeing a clip on hypermiling on Yahoo (GMA), I searched for what HM was about and stumbled onto MetroMPG's 100+ tips. From there, found a link to this. Technically I guess it was Google but since I used another website I figured that would fall under "other".
