New aero mods for Metro

So I started with some aero mods yesterday and i think they turned out good. I have to pick one of my kids up at the airport today so I figured I would try out some mods to track my first tank with the mods on with 5 hours of driving. I got 40.4 MPG at around 70-75 MPH on the way there and back. I'll post with my next fill up if there is and gains. I know everyone likes picture.

I think that 55 is a much better areo mod.

If you can drive 55 its great, i cant speak for anyone else but, i am given a "reasonable" time to go from job to job, and on a recent 1000 mile trip for work i would have been harressed if i drove 55,, as the speed limit almost all the way there is 70. so i have started aeromods that will allow me to drive the speed limit and not hurt mpg.s as much.and no i cant always leave early to compensate.on my recent trip it was my best tank ever with my new bellypans, i also cheated a little by doing some safe distance drafting. i averaged 65 mph, also 55 in a 70 zone is sometimes dangerous.

Well I'm back from my 5 hours of driving and I have a 1/8 of a tank left. When I got back from my trip on Friday the needle was touching the top of E line. I will be through the rest of my tank this week and will be able to post some results.

Well thanks for all the looks nice good job on the mods, how could I ever thank you guys.

Well, just to clear things up I was traveling I40 during these travels and anything under 65 is going to get you rear ended people travel 75-85 and up all the time that is why I travel at the speed limit which is 70 mph. Thanks Moonmonkey for letting me know I'm not alone out there high speed racing at 70

So anyways I was able to drive slower this trip and keep it at just under 70 the whole way there used a little safe distance drafting and watched the lights and traffic better so i could coast a little more. I think the results will turn out nicely from my new aero mods and slight driving style change.

55 in a 70 isn't going to kill you.

I do like the headlight covers though. Makes me wish there was something that easy to improve upon on my car. :/

Those headlight covers are look like they're meant to be there. Nice job! What kind of plastic if that? How did you cut it? Can you easily bend it?

White118 01-24-2010 07:49 PM

I know 55 won't kill me, I feel safer some what traveling with traffic. I stayed in the right lane almost the whole way today and people came very close to hitting me driving like jackass. When I drive around town to and from work I drive much slower. I just don't trust people driving 3 ton vehicles at 85, that will kill you.

I just used 1/8 inch plexiglass and cut it with a jig saw with a fine blade. I used masking tape on both sides and went slow and cut easy with out any breaks. It seemed to bend just fine. I got the plexiglass from my desk at work they where replacing mine with a new one and going to toss it out so I took. And it was just the thing I was looking for FREE.

traveling with the flow of traffic, instead of going much slower or faster is going to be safer, ask a state cop. or just use logic.

Since when is a state cop a source of reliable information?

A state cop's job is to get you to stay within a set of limits, and not be noticed.

Of course he's going to tell you to "go with the flow"...

Logic around here seems to be in the eye of the beholder... If your logic tells you to ask a State Police Officer about whether or not you should stay within a perceived limit that is set by the law, I don't want your logic anywhere near my life.

I agree with Christ.

Also, it's relative speed on the highway. It's like a 10mph wreck if you're going 60 and they're going 70. (assuming you don't spin otu or something)
