New car, Bought today, hopefully a good buy...

My first real post here, but I have been reading....
I was looking for something for my 100 mile daily commute to work. Been going back and forth between straight gas and a hybrid... But fell on this car and well... pulled the trigger on it. While I was looking for a VX, and a 5 speed, I could not pass up the low miles and overall condition of this car. My not get the Vx mpgs, but I'm hoping it can do ok. My new 93 Civix DX auto with 70k original miles. (Pictures from the original ebay auction. ) Clean car fax. Time will tell if I got burned or not... the car is currently 11.5 hours away from me and the price I paid includes the shipping to my front door. Almost hate to say what I paid for it for fear someones going to jump out and make it look like I paid to much... what do you think car and transport of car would be worth... then I'll tell what I paid lol. |
That ship has already sailed, so meh.

I have no idea, will make a wild guess of $1500.
What is the mpg for an automatic? Are you going to convert it to manual? |
Lol, you actually bought a car off eBay?
I didn't know people actually did that! Those glamour shots make it look pretty sweet, but I have a feeling you're going to find out why people don't buy a car remotely. Good luck! |
I find it interesting that the previous owner had enough money to buy over-sized wheels but not enough to paint a replacement fender. The rest of the car looks clean, and it probably brought a premium price tag. My guess: $4k.
Would I have paid that much? Probably. A rust-free 92-95 hatchback is almost unobtainable in my neck of the woods. If you do find one, it's been raced and motor swapped to the point where nothing on the car is original. These cars will continue to go up in value, and if you convert to a manual transmission and keep it clean it should be a good car. |
Two things automatically drive me away from considering a car:
#1 cold air intake - cold air intake equals kid-owned . . .everything done to the car will be half-assed by some 16 year old ricer wannabee and his buddies, from the lowering to the "tuning" #2 "se habla espanol" in the ad - all the wiring will have been done with speaker wire, and there won't be an OEM part on the car |
It looks decent enough from the pics. Maybe the previous owner liked the ghetto look of the single black fender....Lowered suspension means a bit less drag and it has a mini-kammback :) Do the basic things as mentioned on this site and I hope you will enjoy it!

Well, My final price was 3300. Remember, that's including all tax, shipping etc... hard to say who has owned it in it's life, but someone took some care of it, and 70K? hardly drove it. My current daily driver is a Euro 300TDT (Turbo diesel Wagon) with 260k on it (OM617). It's a good car but only gets about 28mpg. I've put 30k of those miles on myself. I also have an 87 300D (OM603), new engine, updated to the 94 front, body molding and interior.. it does a little better at 31mpg. Have to pull trans out again, so thinking about going to a 5 speed. Our current winner is my wives 99 e320 7 passenger wagon... It can bring 34mpg. Has full under body belly pans factory. All 3 are big heavy cars. This will be quite a change. I have a paint guy and the car will go straight to him to have the paint fixed, won't cost me but 100 bucks. I can't imagine the rims/wheels help the mpg... may change, just have to see how the car does when it gets here. I will keep a log.

I need to do a little more reading and figure out what would be the best manual to put into this car. I was really looking for a 5 speed to begin with, but everything around me was crap. There where even a few vx's (3) all of them had had engine transplants to the vtech and hot rodded... and cost more than I paid for this one. Seems to be a very popular car for kids to rod. guess cause its cheap and parts are cheap. Last Honda I owned was an 81 prelude. 20 some years ago. So I don't know a lot about them yet. |
It's a nice looking car, and that's in the range that I paid for my civic.
