New front bumper for Toyota T100 (w/ pix)
 

Hello all -

As I mentioned inprevious posts, my intentions were to buy a T100 and aero-mod it.

After finding a decent T100 which was no easy task, I found a 95 4cyl / 5speed Long bed like I was hoping to.
It did take a little bit of work to bring it to a decent condition, but I went ahead and changed the shocks, tires, seatbelts, fluids and even washed it ;).

So, now that the truck is running well enough an I managed to get a baseline of 21 MPG out of it, I decided it to start aeromodding it (and install a good stereo in it, but that's a different story).

I went ahead and designed a complete replacement of the bottom half of the front bumper, rather than messing with the original part.
It is a complete bolt on piece and fully reversible to the original condition with drilling a single hole or such.

I'm still missing the brackets that hold the corners aligned with the body (right now they're sticking out) and the center bracket that rounds the bottom nicely and holds it from flapping in the wind.
I'll finish those tomorrow.

Nice job! It would be interesting to know what your before and after mpg are, if you have a Scanguage and it isn't too hard to remove the part and then put it back.

Nice choice. If I had to drive a truck, that is the exact model I would have chosen. Good start with your airdam, but I have a few suggestions if you ever decide to be more elaborate.

Suggestions

• Curve the airdam so it extends from the bumper to the lower control arms while maintaining a smooth radius (or parabola)
• Fabricate wheel splitters and boattails for each of the four tires. Try to keep the taper ~7-10 degrees and radius all corners. The faces directed towards the wheels should be slightly wider then the tires
• Build a full underbody, starting at the front and extending back as time allows
• Build full length side skirts that extend as close to the ground as clearance will allow
• Construct an aeroshell
• Lose the passenger mirror
• Install a grill block
• Build rear wheel skirts

Hopefully these ideas will serve as a brainstorm and guideline if you choose to delve a little deeper into truck aerodynamics. Your car has a ton of potential. In any case, I watch with interest. :)

LostCause, I already have a plan to continue it that dirction, as time allows.
However, there are things that I'm not going to trim from the truck just for the sake of aero and gas mileage, mirrors are a good example.

My truck is a 95 so no OBD-2 or scan gauge.

Bracketry is done.
I made it from aluminum U channel and bar, all riveted together and bolted to the truck's frame.
Very strong and very light.

Now, using as a mounting point the lower side of that U channel support that runs the width of your new air dam, why not attach a Coroplast undertray that runs back at least as far as the engine oilpan?

Add a wind deflector in front of each front tire, as well as a fairing behind each.

That is the reason why I used the U channel in the first place, to use it as a bracket for an undertray in the future.
Otherwise, it would have been much easier to make it out of a bar :) ...
