I have an 09 Mailbu, 4 cyl, 6 spd auto and commute 40 miles one way. I have averaged 32.2 mpg overall with about 50,000 miles on the car. I use full syn oil. I live in the mountains and about half of the first 10 miles each morning is up hill. Of course I benefit when heading home. The next 15 miles are hills that are as much up as down and then things level out more or less. The speed limit is 75. I have typically driven 65. I have tried slower and found its a good way to get run over by semis and cowboys in jacked up 4 wheelers so 65 seems a safe compromise. Last week I put in a grille block in the center grille opening. The mailbus have 3 openings in the nose but the top one is just fake and has been blocked by the factory. The lowest one is the smallest and I blocked the center one which is the largest. So far the water temp has not changed but the outside temps are only in the mid 50's. I have also tried running with a group of cars or staying behind cars. I also quit using the cruise control and coasting to stops when possible. The fill up today showed I got 35.6 MPG. Of the 132 fill ups this is the 3rd best ever.
