New Modder Introduces Self..

Hey Everyone,

I've been a big fan of small cars and great fuel economy for years. I recently purchased a '96 Geo Metro that needs some serious mechanical TLC (on the verge of having a JDM engine installed soon) but otherwise in good condition. I've recently become more interested in aerodynamics and their effects on fuel economy. I'm looking forward to the mods to come!

Welcome Al!

Another Metro? They are really hard to find where I live. Nice choice.

Welcome to ecomodder, al! You've got a great base car, got any mileage goals?

Economic Al 04-28-2008 11:43 PM

Thanks. I'll be happy with anything in the mid to upper 50's for highway mileage (after modding). 60 would be good, of course! If I happen to scare-up an XFi camshaft I'll set my sights a bit higher!

Hi Al - welcome to EM and Metro ownership.

I think you'll find those goals within your reach, depending on the critical unmentioned factor: how fast do you want to be going while achieving those mid to upper 50's?

I'm hoping to achieve 60 mpg at 60-65 mph. Do you think this is in the realm of possibility?

In warm weather, with driving technique plus moderate to extensive aero and mechanical mods, yes.

Daox 04-29-2008 01:20 PM

Possible? Yes. Easy? Haha, no. Thats pretty quick and your going to be dealing with a lot of wind resistance at that speed. Driving techniques should get you into the 50s. Getting another 10 mpg out of modifications is no simple task. However, I'm trying to do close to the same thing. :)

It's always fun trying, isn't it? :D Ah, obsessions..
