NEW project in the works 1993 2 door tempo
Well I'm new here And this is my first real post.
well I was planing to make a race car out of it but its too solid and would be a crime to do so. so i will be doing a different kind of mod on it it will be a PWE mod . I will be taking the automa**** tranny out and instaling a 4 speed tranny with a final gear of 2.85 to 1 , that will make this V6 engine not rev like a race car engine on the highway. the V6 5 speed tranny comes out with a 3.58 or 3.52 to 1 and that makes it rev over 3k at highway speeds. I will clean the car up paint it and take out all the unnesasary items like insulation and stuff like that . I would like to make it lose lots of weight I need this car to be good on gas I want to get 50mpg+ with it and even more if posible , I don't really care for the power I will even instal a small mufler. I will make it my dailly driver winter and summer it will save wear and tear on my pick up truck. I have bought a few parts for this project. so tell me what you guys think and if you have a few ideas well post them here. I will be updating with pics from time to time. FRANK The Mechanic here are a few pics of the car un touch , I have not started to work on the car has to date but I have a few new parts for it . http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s...DSC00165-1.jpg http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s...b/DSC00144.jpg http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s...b/DSC00146.jpg http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s...b/DSC00152.jpg |
Sweet!
I'm over on tempotopaz.com now too - just picked up a 1992 4dr Tempo with CNG fuel setup (in addition to the gasoline system) .. Stock, it seems Tempos aren't particularly highway efficient - at least not with auto trans. I'll be starting a bit of an ecomodding project on this one.. after I'm done bringing it back from its near death current state. |
we will have a small competition who gets better gas milage muhahaha.
|
My 5-speed averages 33.7 mpg right now while my a/t is at 28. Stupid a/t really causes a big fe hit.
If you are after 50 mpg with a 6 I think you will be disappointed. But good luck trying! |

and I have a few tricks up my sleve if I have too I will convert it to carburator since ajusting a carburator is much better for lean condition then a fuel injection. |

hehe... depends what you mean by gas, 'cause I can drive about 100 miles without using a drop of gasoline ;) (actually for the time being I can't get it to run on gasoline at all) |

It might be a decent amount of work but I think 50 mpg on the highway could be doable. I have got 35 out of my 3.8 Auto Mustang on the highway before with nothing but pumping up the tire pressure and sitting behind a semi for almost 500 miles. My girlfriend is getting 26 - 31 the last few weeks going back and forth to work on the highway in the Mustang. Keep your RPMs down whenever you can, clean up the aero with some wheel covers, side skirts, grill block, body pan, passenger mirror delete, wing delete, antenna delete, wiper shield or delete, switch to synthetic fluids, and do some EOC, and Pulse and Glide and you should get the mpg up pretty good. That should cover the bulk of it I think. |
well a little update.
I will not be using the V6 , not that there is anything wrong with it but I want and need to be different and I will be using a 1988 Escort GT 1.9L HO but insted of MPFI I will be running a 2 barrel carb from a 1982 ford escort. I will be using the same tranny I was going to use with the V6 wel lthe same diff since they are the same. I will insta lthe tallest gears and ratio I can and make it light and cut the air like a bullet . the 1.9L 4 cylinder is almost a drop in for this car not much modding to do. and 60mpg is posible if i set it up has a lean burn and that is ezzy to do with a carburator. I have done 2 cars before for MPG challenge but back then its because i was poor and needed to save some cash and I sure do love to drive. but this time its for less polution and pure fun and because I can. Hell, go for 70.
|
70mpg is alot more then i ever got .
with a 1987 ford escort pony with a 2.3L 5 speed swap I got 47mpg and with a 1978 ford fiesta 1.6L I got 65mpg but this one of the smallest cars ford ever made . now its a different story with the ford tempo its big and heavy but that 1.9L will be the best swap I could do to it I have a 2.3L/2.5L but that is modded to be in a race car not good for a eco modder. it has too much lift and duration and the cpmpresion is 240psi so the 1.9L is the best . I keep you posted this is a on going project it will not be done in a week. |
